Hello,  Below is a Tyranid that I was thinking of building:

HQ:
Tyrant-212
-Wings,Warp Field, Scything Talons x2, Toxic Miasma, Str, Flesh Hooks, Acid Maw, Implant Attack

Troops:
12 Genestealers -276
-Extended Carapace, Scuttlers

12 Genestealers -276
-Extended Carapace, Scuttlers

12 Genestealers-276
-Extended Carapace, Scuttlers

12 Genestealers-276
-Extended Carapace, Scuttlers

Fast Attack:
3 Ravagers-120
-Scything Talons, Rending Claws

3 Ravagers-120
-Scything Talons, Rending Claws

3 Ravagers-120
-Scything Talons, Rending Claws

Heavy Support:
GunFex -163
GunFex -163

2000 points on the Dot.  While a small army for Tyranids, I think that is has some serious bite.  Skimmer Heavy armies will give me trouble but I think that is a problem for most tyranid armies.  I believe that my speed will allow me to have good chances at Turn 2 charges.  What do you guys think?

I think ravs would be better as either 1 or 2 man squads. If you went one, you could probably get the points for another Tyrant which would be far better (or another gunfex).

a shootie walking Tyrant with some Guard or something.

I agree with Longshot, keep 3 raveners in 3 differents slots. Use the remaining pts to buy a tyrant and guards( Catalyst can be useful for this list.).
For troops, your probably better with 6 broods of 8.

Otherwise, it seem solid.

I actually would differ about the squad sizes, min 10 for soft-armor assault troops (e.g. space marine scouts, genestealers, and similar).

probly better to have fewer bigger squads in this list given that the 48 super stealers is 1/2 of his list and change.

dropping them to 10 man squads and adding another 12 man squad with no upgrades might be good though, should be able to do that. Just use the non-scuttling/carapace ones to guard your carnifexes and contest quarters toward the end.

Hmm. I think that you are right about Ravagers. But I have a question: Why is it that Ravagers are placed as table and objective holders rather than supportive attackers? I know a 40 pt objective holding unit is great, but it seems that a single ravager cannot do that much in an assualt before getting killed. A pack, however seems to be a creditable threat that can hide behind terrain and charge.

Inspired by your Suggestions:

HQ:
Hive Tyrant:
-Wings, Warp Field, Scything Talons x2, Toxic Miasma, Str, Flesh Hooks

Troops:
10 Genestealers: 240
-Scuttlers, Extended Carapace, Fleshhooks

10 Genestealers: 240
-Scuttlers, Extended Carapace, Fleshhooks

10 Genestealers: 240
-Scuttlers, Extended Carapace, Fleshhooks

10 Genestealers: 240
-Scuttlers, Extended Carapace, Fleshhooks

10 Genestealers: 120
-Normal

Fast Attack:
3 Ravagers: 120
-Scything Talons, Rendering Claws

1 Ravager: 40
-Scything Talons, Rendering Claws

1 Ravager: 40
-Scything Talons, Rendering Claws

Heavy Support:
Gunfex with Fleshhooks:164
Gunfex with Fleshhooks:164
Gunfex with Fleshhooks:164

I dropped Acid Maw and Implant Attack on the Tyrant. I dropped the Super Stealers to 10 models per squad and added Flesh Hooks (Made sense). Added a basic rearguard stealer pack. Dropped two of the ravager broods to 1 to use for objective holding and the large one to support the Tyrant. Added a third gunfex and used the other 3 points to give them fleshhooks. My only worry is the possible looks I will get for 3 identical fexes.

I like that list a lot better.

But I don't think you 'need' a 3 man squad of dudes to help your flying Tyrant. The stealers will be at most one round behind him.

It's not a horrid list though and should do totally fine.

Just model them very differently and it should be OK.

As a Tyranid player, I agree with Leto...there's no good reason why you shouldn't spread those 'stealers over all six Troops choices. More targets for your opponent and more scoring units for you are both good things. Maximizing your number of units and working the force org chart are keystones of sound Tyranid play. If your opponent chooses to concentrate fire on a single Genestealer unit, he's going to wipe it out whether it's eight 'stealers or 10. You might as well spread them out and give him another unit to think about.

Personally, I'd be inclined to field six units of eight 'stealers, drop the two extra Raveners (Ravagers are DE gunships) and use the points saved to add a Dakkafex as an Elites choice. That gives you another MC for your opponent to deal with and another scoring unit.

Regarding 'stealers vs. Raveners, remember that Raveners can get instant killed outside synapse range, and you only have one synapse unit. 'Stealers, on the other hand, carry a similar points cost per wound to Raveners, have better armor than Raveners, have more rending attacks per wound than Raveners, and don't have to worry about losing two wounds at a time through instant kills. Raveners are faster, but 'stealers are the superior choice overall, and I'd rather put my money/points on them.
