Are there any black library works that either star a demon prince (non-Primarch) or feature one as a protagonist? And if not are there any books that focus on one as a villain?

Eisenhorn has a daemon prince as a main character.

Daemon World is a good example. It's written by Ben Counter and released in 2003.

What’s the demon prince in those books? Do you mean the daemonhost?

Storm of Iron features a chaos lord ascending to deamonhood.

There are some interesting daemon princes in the soul drinker series.

There's also the Exalted in ADB's Night Lords books. It is an especially interesting take in that it is kept deliberately ambiguous whether the daemon he is becoming is actually him or whether he is just being possessed. Due to the timeless nature of the Warp, and therefore of daemons, this is actually a pretty obvious corollary of ascension to daemonhood, but one most other BL authors ignore.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

I'll put in a second for Daemon World. It's not written from the Daemon Prince's perspective, but one features as a main plot point.

That would be interesting for sure but haven't a clue, it could have been a mortal given how chatty it is and it has a distinct personality.

It's also possible it just got that name from a cult on a planet called Baal, may not have anything to do with the blood angel Baal and just be another planet with the same name, like terra, we know of two of those.

Re. Cherubael: Kerub Ba'al literally just means "supernatural servant of the lord" in rather dodgy faux-Hebrew. It's an obvious name for a daemon who has spent a long time bound in service to various mortals.

Maybe Cherubael has some link to the Red Angel from the HH?
