Devil Pig Games, the makers of Heroes of Normandie, Shadows over Normandie and Heroes of Black Reach is doing a fourth game in the series: Heroes of Stalingrad!

Kickstarter starts in March 21 8:00 PM (CET) and will be short one, 15 days only, and ends in April 5th, I think.

This game introduces the Soviet army into HoN games.

Looking forward to this one a lot. The ruined buildings and city tiles should also go nicely with HoBR for some Marine vs Ork city battles

Yes, all maps from all of the different games are totally compatible.

Also, the Soviet army would make a nice Imperial Guard army for Black Reach until a real IG is released in the future...

did they have the Movie "IronCross" Hauptmann Steiner as a hero in the game (if we look at the grafics shown) ?

There was a Steiner in Heroes of Normandie game as a special add on in the first KS.

We don't know yet if Steiner is coming back to Stalingrad too, but that sure looks like James Coburn.

I know for most of the westerners if it's red with some gold it's accurate, but the emblem on the flag on the box should be reversed and the star be bordered, not solid

The belt, insignia and epaulettes on the Soviet officer also bother me, IIRC not only all wartime soviet belts were as plain as possible as they needed to be mass produced, but the Soviets never had Nazi obsession of putting the state emblem everywhere, and anyway in general by early 1942 all brass and bright red elements were removed from uniforms to make officers stand out less. The lead guy not only looks like he was in parade uniform, but heavily post-war uniform at that. If you look at actual Soviet officers in battle of Stalingrad, none of them wear stars on hats to help enemy snipers, no fancy belts, no epaulettes, even collar is made as unassuming as possible.

Alas, as Preds pointed out, all the artist seems to know about the battle is watching that garbage movie (that got nearly everything wrong) once so I guess it's par for the course.

Well, the Heroes of Normandie game was a boardgame about Hollywood war films. The heroes were the main actors and the other soldiers were background actors. All the action in the game focuses on the heroes, well, heroic exploits, with the supporting characters moving in the background. There is even a phase for when the background actors move, when the "camera" is focused elsewhere (called the supply phase).

Heroes of Stalingrad is a continuation of that design focus. So if the heroes look a bit more heroic, that's just a par for the course of what Hollywood war films look like.

At least the tanks look more or less authentic and are not american tanks made to look like german tanks!

If small details like what you described in your post bother you so much, this is not a game for you, really. This is a game for those Hollywood war movie fans.

According to the facebook page, this is not only a short campaign, but there are also no add-ons.

Given that they also said that the storage boxes will be available, I can only assume this means that there will be a fixed pledge level that includes the game and the relevant boxes to store it all in as well as a basic level that is just the core game. We shall see...

I would automatically back this if it weren't for the horrendous shipping across to the US. The only reason I did not preorder Black Reach (because that one had free shipping for the complete preorder) is that my wife and I were building a new house and selling the old one, and finances were super tight

I believe they are on the ships. There were issues with the digital files and server, which then led to overlaps at the factory, which led to... led to... lots of things. Should be here soon though *fingers crossed*

They have added some reference sheets in the base box (they were missing from the earlier graphics).
This means that if you own the rules Compendium, you get to add these reference sheets to your Compendium box so that it remains up to date with the current rules.

Another rumour at the DPG site says that there will be a second kickstarter in the fall 2018.

It will fund more troops and terrain boards for Stalingrad: Red October, Barrikady and Tractor factory was mentioned. APioneer platoon for the germans is mentioned. So far I haven't heard much else.

This KS focuses on the early part of the battle of Stalingrad (summer). The next KS will focus on the later part of Stalingrad campaign (winter).

Devil Pig Games are doing 2 smaller and tighter kickstarters instead of 1 bigger because they want to make sure that the products get out of the factory without any delays and on time. I appreciate that.

But the fact is that this KS is just the beginning of the Stalingrad story and more will follow.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that Pavlovs platoon (heroic platoon) was mentioned too for the next KS, so we might be getting Pavlovs house map (map piece or overlay).

Two smaller ones sounds like a great idea, given past factory issues. I'm looking forward to this one already, especially the tractor factory boards, which they mentioned would take up about 6 tiles (I think)?

A six map tiles sized factory would be a great map to fight over! The whole map for just 1 building.

I really hope there will be that kind of map in the next KS!

This looks like a good project and a nice way to ease friends into wargaming but I really hope they keep the faux-cyrllic font to a minimum because it is honestly super hard to parse (and I have only very limited Russian language training from college - I imagine it must be worse for anyone who uses the language more regularly)

Well, it looks like the cyrillic(ish) font is only used in this kickstarter page... The actual game pieces look to have a more readable font.
