Hi there,
I am gluing my models right now while writting, and so I am soon to begin to play with my brother. I have the boxe and GW2. However, there are already two new gangs and soon many more ! I haven't played to the old Necromunda. So, tell me, how do the gangs plays ? I can imagine the Goliath are assault heavy but what about the Eschers, the Orlocks... ?
I would like to know how they play gameplay wise ?

Never played the old Necromunda? Shame on you!

But enough with the banter and let´s get down to business.

House Goliath
The only Gang so far that features models with S&T of 4. They favour melee and short range shootouts. These brutes are also fans of Bane (DC) and love to emulate their idol by using combat drugs which make them really frightening in combat.

House Escher
These agile amazon punks also like to get in cc to use their trademark weapons which have the Toxin SR. Sadly the SR are badly written and therefore not useable. You will have to check FAQ, if GW corrected these mistakes in the meantime. Escher also have a thing for lasguns because they are cheaper for them to acquire. Another nice aspect are Choke Gas grenades but I don´t recall if these are functional or also in need a FAQ.

House Orlock
The vanilla gang. Nuff said.

House Van Saar
Guys (and now even gals) in Dune bodysuits with a Tech fetish. If you are playing a campaign, a lot of your gangers will be able to use the skills from the Tech tree. This meant in the past that they could field a lot of special weapons.

House Cawdor & House Delaque
These gangs will be published soon. The former will have access to Ferocity skills and the latter to Stealth skills.

GSC
GW also ruined that one. You will have to look for community rules in order to play them properly.

Chaos Cultists
These guys will also be published soon. Maybe even in April. It would be cool, if they were able to summon a lesser daemon during play.

Hobby advise:
Give your gangers names and arm them differently from one another. This is a skrimish game after all which is not suited for cutthroat competitve play. I saw a lot of starter gangs on the interwebz which contained a lot of bare bones shrubs with the same equipment to maximise efficiency on the board (e.g. several Escher gangers armed with just a discount lasgun). Remember your gangers are not Germans but colourful scum from the Underhive. So arm them accordingly to that premise.

I still use my vintage Escher gang and I don´t have any duplicates in my roster.

Flavour before efficiency. Search for "Redemptionists Necromunda PDF" for old rules for the best type of gang there ever was: The Redemption, playable as a leaderless frenzied; spontaneous mob, or as a Priest-led Crusade to purge the Underhive from mutants, witches, sinners and heretics. Purge and scourge!

In the old rules, the Redemption have a 50% chance to receive a new recruit for free whenever a gang member dies. The eager pious masses are fired up by the death of martyrs! Redemptor Priests can convert captured baseline humans (non-wyrd, non-mutant, non-undead gangers and ratskins). Save their souls and swell the ranks of the faithful!

Did I mention that the Redemptionists were outlaws with an open bounty on their heads? We'll see how the new rules will treat them. Burn or be burnt!

And by the grace of the God-Emperor, they have the Redeemer! Google this comic:

The new van saar look amazing. I can see a whole Guard army of them be g pretty cool.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I agree Toxin is badly written, but it has changed from not useable to extreme overkill. It is now the most deadly in all of Necromunda (depending on interpretation, which the rules unfortunately invite to).

If you are playing 2D (Zone Mortalis), Goliath are absolutely beast. The tight walls and corridors allow them to make the most of their slower movement speed, and the fact that their forge plates only give the 5+ save on their front facing. Combined with the Throw skill, and the combat shotgun (and grenade launcher) with its template, and you can easily wipe the enemies from the board.

Yeah, when reading the rules I was like "the Eschers are the least resilient gangers and they have the worst CI stat !"
I mean, if they die faster than the others, at least they could be more cold blooded ?
For the moment I am planning to play with the 2D in deed !

Glass cannons, but with some interesting tricks.

IMHO, unless you're really good at conversions you may want to wait until they release their weapons upgrades. From the looks of it, they come with 'pretty good' stuff in the kit but the upgrade kits from Forge World are going to have the really nasty stuff.

I bought a box of them just to put together. Lots of little bitty pieces.

You definitely have to pay to field a Van Saar team.

Van Saar Ganger with a Lasgun 75 cr
Escher Ganger with a Lasgun 55 cr

At this point they are a little overrated and anyone who knows what they are doing can breach a Van Saar firing line with almost no causaulties.

My advice? Get yourself a pair of Dual pistol wielders to cover your flanks. They still utilize that excellent BS abilitiy in melee when using them even in CC. This can even be Juves who get 5" move and still hold a 4+ BS. A pair can be fielded for as little as 90 cr if using the baseline Laspistol, which with a 8" short range can actually really hold down those fireline flanks without having to charge at times.

Don't be afraid to get Flak armor in a hurry. There is a lot of Grenade launcher spam in the Meta, and will continue to be until someone pulls their heads out and realizes those things are way undercosted amongst other issues.

I honestly suggest to everyone new to try out Orlock first and foremost however. They are a House that has no true weaknesses, which is their strength. While they can't straight up compete with any other House in what that group is good at, they have the tools to utlize what that House is weak against, such as the Van Saar easily getting swept off the field in melee in addition to their pricey units so you probably outnumber them, and possibly outrange them (in distance, not ability) if you are packing a pair of Hvy Stubbers.

Oddly enough, the Genestealer Cult list is another great list for new players at the moment. It's really simple yet flexible. It's easy to find models on the cheap since they have a 40k army, and their basic units are inexpensive with impressive nerves, making them the most resilient gang atm to not tuck tail and run. If you have "Deathwath: Overkill", then you actually have an impressive list of these guys at your disposal already, including the melee terror that is the Aberrants.

I won't lie: Escher are there for fanboys and "shop queens". They aren't a bad House by any means, but their warrior woman shtick along with the uncovered mid drifts is more of a trial of endearment. Their poison was never as bad as professed. It was more an issue of whiney "I'm not killing the MALE gang" modern expectation of "mary sue" female combatant. If they just used their blasted aforementioned "55 cr lasgunners" (which is cheaper then an unarmed Goliath Ganger) this wouldn't have been as much of a problem. The reason why people now think gas/poison is broken is more because they are facing a lot more 3 toughness combatants then anything else.........who knew that would make a difference.

How are you able to use your BS in melee? My impression was only WS is used.

Don't worry, I am not doing a Van Saar gang, I didn't even finish to paint my Eschers and Goliaht (was waiting for the upgrade weapons) !
And I guess I will do a Gen Cult soon !
Thanks for the info, guys

Also, if you like making custom random stuff, or just want to use Guardsmen or something like that? Venator Gangs.

Is there (or was there in Oldcromunda) a gang that is better against an other gang ? Like, in rock paper scissors ? Not interested by making an ultimate gang, don't worry I am (eventually !!!) building my Golitath gang for my july campaign, just for information.

Not that I can think of.
