The great and all powerful lawyers of the Craftworlds and Gangs of Commorragh came down from on high and did declare that 'Eldar' and 'Dark Eldar' were not copyright friendly enough. So they performed a blood ritual for the God Khaine in which they did sacrifice all plastic model update releases for Eldar for the next 2 years, and so Khaine did rebrand the ancient races as Aeldari and Drukhari; giving the races invulnerability from copyright infringement.

Asuryani comes from Asuryan, or possible Asurmen who implements the path system. (Is that last bit right?) In such a wayb it functions as a description of the culture, they follow the teaching of Asumen.
What does the name Drukhari come from?

Well ... But in all seriousness, "-ari" seems to mean something like "people" or "folk" or something like that. "Dru-" seems to simply refer to darkness or falleness across both 40k and the WHFB Old World ( cf. Druchii).

I have seen in many times, and it is a good joke,
I also think it would be pronounced differently?

I pronounce it DROO-k(ah)ri, where the second syllable sounds like car (as in automobile).

well, I`ve always pronounced it ( for a given value of always as its a relatively new term) " Droo-Carr_eeee". thoungh i know a lot of people who prefer "DrughKKK a-ree" As far as whatt it means, my gut tells me "name that can be trademarked".

I prefer the original term used by Vect for the Dark Eldar: "Eladrith Ynneas"
Obviously the latter part was reference to Ynnead, so Eladrith Ynneas while meaning Dark Eldar could more literally mean "Dead Eldar walking", which is an apt description of the Dark Eldar's lifestyle and need to stave off the Thirst.
The term Drukhari just seems like a clumsy way to try and mirror the Dark Elves from WHFB with all the harsh "k" sounds.

I prefer it with a short 'u', as in 'up', long 'ar' as in 'art' and long 'i' as in 'eat'. With a Lovecraftian guttural sound on the first syllable to make it sound as evil as possible.
/drʌkɑːriː/
GW should start giving phonemic transcriptions of this stuff for clarity.

There is also probably a healthy chunk of Drow in the etymology as well.

Seconded. GWs naming conventions - for obvious reasons - as of late have gone from cringy to outright bat feth ridiculous.
Drukhari is possibly the least egregious of these offenders.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |
