I am not sure it this goes in this section of the forum, so MODs please move it needed.

If I want specific models for collecting/painting and they only come is boxes of multiple models, what is the best/cheapest way to get just the models I want?
For example, I would like a single Bloodletter, a Daemonette, a Plaguebear with a nurgling on its base and a Pink/Blue Horror with a Brimstone on its base.
But I do not want to buy 4 whole boxes of Daemons as I do not play Daemons anymore.

I've attempted to scour eBay, but most options are "blind" buys meaning I have no say in which model I may get. Or the cost + shipping is pretty ridiculous.
I feel that buying the boxes, taking just the single model I want, then selling the remainder of the box is probably the best way to go about this.

If I do this, I would want to make purchasing the "left-overs" worth more than buying a new whole set to recoup my investment.
In my experience, this actually means NOT painting the models. Not only is that time spent, but many buyers already have a scheme that might not match.
I'll also likely leave most on the sprue and ship in the GW box.

For added value, I am thinking of modeling the icon on a base as a stand alone mini to act as the "10th" model. That way I get the model I want and can sell a "complete" set of models that are the minimum unit size. For the Plague Bearers, I could use an extra Nurgling on this Icon base. For the Horrors, I can split a few Brimstones into singles on their base, effectively giving more bases on Brimstones that the set comes with.

Thoughts? Suggestions that either don't involve buying the box, or that could help get my $ back from buying a box?

I've seen UK-based bits sites that let you pick specific parts out of a box but they tend to be a lot more expensive.

Mmmmmm you could always send a message to the Ebay seller that does warhammer singles and see if you can bother them to get you the ones you need.

From what I have seen of singles, even if it is exactly the sets of bits I want, is that the cost + shipping is nearly half what it would be just to buy a whole box.
At that rate, I'd rather buy the whole box and resell what I don't need. It'd likely be far cheaper, or even "free" if I put in the right effort into "expanding" the contents of the box.

You could check with your local Chaos players - they may have the odd spare figure, or be interested in your excess - especially if they make up their units in multiples of the Chaos gods' number.

Yeah, that's probably how I will "sell" the Horrors at least.
9 Horrors as appropriate to Tzeentch, especially since I won't have an icon model for them (I'll be getting the Blue Horror box only)
But the others I'll model up a 10th model that is a spare icon only (with a Nurgling for the PBs)

I've been using the swap shop to get Deathwatch / GK bits. Just spelled out what I was looking for and someone got back to me.

I know Deamons are more popular than those armies right now. Worth a try though.

I ending up findind most of the bitz I needed for the Daemonette in my bits box, than just got the Chariot crews from eBay for the 'Letters and the Horrors.

I had to greenstuff the Daemonette claw, the Brimstone Horror and turn the 2nd 'Letter into the Plaguebearer, but over all I am very pleased with the outcome.
Oh, and the Nurgling is made from the 3rd Horror's face with Chaos Warhound horns greenstuffed for the hands and feet.

Genuinely went through this myself and still have no real answer. Sometimes it's worth jist buying a box, making 1 unit and selling the rest on ebay for bitz. You can probably make a profit sometimes.

I've done that before, but usually it taking plastic unit X, converting it to be unit Y (that's currently Finecast) and selling it for just less than the Finecast unit.
Since the plastic box I bought was much less than the fincast, I generally make a small profit, but mostly it was just to get the idea out of my head.
