I'm just getting into AoS from 40k, and looking to start a Tzeentch army. I headed out to pick up the Start Collecting box for a base, but what would you all recommend for the next few purchases, or things I might consider getting at the same time? I'm still learning how the army works and what the units do, so I'm unsure what to add beyond more horrors. Utlimately I plan on making a Daemon/Arcanite list, and will be running them in 40k with 1k Sons. Though for now, AoS is the primary focus for them.

Welcome to the Mortal Realms! If you can, get a Lord of Change, they're pretty darn awesome in all aspects.

I have also found a disc Herald to be more useful than a foot Herald. Not sure what sprues that box set has, but it might have the other Burning Chariot disc parts, then you'd be set for the other disc.

For mortals that can be 40k too, I think Tzaangors are excellent; just get a shaman too. Not sure if they're in 40k, but those skyfires are brutal on the enemy in most games I've fought againts and seen them.

Check out some of those Warscroll Battalions for AoS too, like the Changehost for example. They provide good bonuses, and often times can hold your necessary battleline units too. Oftentimes those battalions don't hold the battleliners well and we end up sacrificing body count to get a few buffs, but objective holding is so key in AoS!

Echoing the Gaunt Summoner. Add in brimstone horrors with the mortal spell that lets you pawn off wounds to them for added hilarity. He can also ONLY be killed by spells/shooting when he’s on the vortex. Make sure you have the one from Silver tower with familiars. Gets him a bunch of bonuses. And can’t ever go wrong with two LoCs!

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

To add to this, anything can be familier, GW actually sells a familer pack with like 12 of them so you can choose your own. But if you want to take a bigger risk, give him tzeentzch bolt, the one that does d6 mortal wounds and you become a character sniper. This is really useful especially against armies like SCE who can field really powerful synergy character. You have a potential to one shot them with a 5 or 6

Actually, you take BOTH. Because he’s also a Daemon and that spell happens to be in both lores.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Definitely getting a LoC, likely more than one eventually. Just bought some colorshift paint for these guys. The Gaunt Summoner is on the list as well. I picked up the SC, a box of blues, and The Changeling (most fiddly kit I've ever assembled, necrons included).

The SC box does include the parts for a Herald on disc, by taking them from the burning chariot. I'm trying to figure out a way to magnetize that kit. If it could only be built one way, which would you all choose?

Also, look into slaves of darkness they have one of the best battle line choices for chaos as a whole the chaos warriors. 2 wounds 4+ and a ward save, comboing chaos warriors with a warshrine can make them a 4+ rerollable and even a 3+ rerollable if shielded. Also all slaves to darkness units can take the tzeentzch keyword so you don't break tzeentzch alligence.

I use mine as a anvil unit to tie stuff up, then just lay into what ever charges them with spells. Slaves to darkness are a great addition to any chaos army

Those Chaos Warriors make spectacular wound batteries for the Treacherous Bond spell. If you have 20 Warriors, it's like giving an extra 40 wounds to the caster!

And if you wanna be a cheeky bastard, put your chaos warrior in two ranks, front rank sword and board, and behind them halbard and board so you can poke over with them but the enemy can't poke back. You can bomb in 40 attacks + from 2 ranks. Plus with mystic shield and a warshrine, and bonds spell your looking at a 40 wound blob that has a 3+ rerollable 5++ and a 6+ fnp from a warshrine. Ain't nothing getting through that easily

Why use the Chaos warriors for the treacherous bond? Brimstones are WAY cheaper!
Unless warriors get to roll waves after the Summoner inevitably fails them. But I don’t think they do.
60 Brimstones is 200 points. That’s one helluva screen and it’s cheap. Plus they can still shoot and have high bravery.

Well if you are running tzeentzch you can also istead look at running a squad of pink horrors to pass wounds off to that way you can utilize the ones from your destiny dice pool to keep bringing them back.

Because I only play Chaos Mortals. They're also considerably more durable than Brims.
