I have yet to play, and I am trying to come up with a list using one of the following as a capital ship. For long range engagements, which of these is the best choice?

Desolator Battleship or Repulsive Grand Cruiser (with dorsal lance upgrade, adding 45cm to dorsal lance range=>75cm is crazy!)?

Additionally, are Executor Grand Cruisers any good?

I've not got anywhere near enough experience to answer your question, but I can clear up a misunderstanding. The upgrade in the Big Blue Book "increases the range of its dorsal lances to 45cm" (bolding mine), not by 45cm.

Isn't the correct answer the Hades?

Does the lack of torpedoes and having 1-2 less turrets not matter as much as the Str10 port weapons on the Hades?

This is my recollection. I played BFG prolifically when it was a thing, but I played Imperial and fought against Chaos a lot, and my memory suggests I was more scared of fighting Hades, and didn't care much about Battleships that were easier prey for torpedos, small craft and lances.
