With many small companies making great resin pieces and me always looking for customizing my armies, i am left wondering if ill need to redo part of my figs before going to any major tournaments.
So im asking for your experiences.
Examples:
1. Using alternative heads for figs, or third party turrets
2. Using artillery crew from third party, on a gw gun
3. Using a 3rd party model for characters when gw doesnt make the model anymore ( big mek with kff for example)

Bits box, I ain't got no bits box...I have a bits room...

Every one is different. Check with the organizers. Generally, if it's not a GW run event, it won't matter as long as your army is not confusing for an opponent.

+1 on asking first, I highly doubt you will have problems, but if you have cleared it in advance with the organisers you know for sure.

likely helps if when asking you include a few clear photos on the models in question

We have 5 or 6 tournaments a year at our club, all different games from different companies. We've never told people what they can/cannot use other than WYSIWYG (and then loosely, so people can have interesting sculpts or conversions. The general rule is to try and make it obvious, we judge on a case by case basis)

I attended 7, maybe 8 tournaments last year all over the country, mostly Bolt Action but a couple of other different ones too (Frostgrave springs to mind), and not once did any of the organisers have a problem with any of my forces, despite not using anything like standard forces or company specific models.

As has been said, check with the organiser, I'd bet that 95% are fine with it.

In Finland pretty lax. Basically if it's obvious enough what it represents it's good. So I have seen anime mecha's as riptides etc. 3rd party kits would be piece of cake.

Helps no official GW tournaments here and good riddance as well. Independent tournaments have much less player-inconvenient restrictions.
