A tad spammy, I know. I'm mostly aiming for versatility in tournament games, with both anti-vehicular weapons and massed small-arms fire. The army is split in two battalions; along with Kurov's Aquila and Grand Strategist, I'm not planning to be stingy when it comes to command points. I'm open to suggestions for filling those remaining 16 points.

You could drop a mortars and grab a psyker, then put the heavies in a separate Catachan detachment. Would improve the manticores output more and the psyker could help protect them. Fist commander seems slightly random, but I guess you could make him at Catachan to get a real fist in there. May be slightly at odds though with where he'd want to be ordering the mortars. :/

Howdy,

I am more familiar with a mechanized infantry set up based around the Armageddon doctrine but I do have some insights.

You have 16 remaining points, I would give every sergeant, and perhaps even the commanders boltguns I would think the 24 inch rapid fire weapon would get more use than the 12 inch pistol for the majority of the troops, specifically given this looks closer to a gun line army.

If your guard are getting into close combat, you are already in a lot of trouble I would suggest considering dropping the enhanced close combat weapons like power fist and see about allocating points somewhere else.

On the note of lascannons, I know they are useful, but I think you may get more versatility out of missile launchers, which allows the anti Armour and anti horde choice.

Further, I am guessing you are currently using both battalions with the cadian doctrine. Perhaps consider the Armageddon doctrine for one of the battalions. It would be a nasty trick to have the two battalions mixed together, so when the enemy tries to charge the gun line you have that extra 6 inches, practically another turn of rapid fire waiting spread into the cadian gun lines.

I would second rahxephon's suggestion of a psyker.

I'll definitely consider a psyker, but I'd rather not have a mixed army unless my army is built and painted as such. It's an interesting concept, mind, and one that has support in the fluff. I just think it's kinda cheap to have a mixed army solely for the benefits it provides, without the appropriate models and color scheme.

Fist commander seems slightly random,

I agree, but these are the models I have to work with and I try to stick to WYSIWYG as much as possible.

Again I'm limited by models. I'm not spending fortunes on new sergeants and captains just to plug a 16-point gap in a single list.

I'll consider it. I don't have missile launcher teams right now, but I do have the missile launcher bits that would allow me to turn normal guardsmen into missile teams at a discount.

I wouldn’t suggest converting nor did mean to sound like I was suggesting that.

If you want to actually have the gun on the model, specifically the sergeants just add a bolt gun to the model. Literally ask any space marine player for the bit and paint it. It is as simple as adding it to the back of a model like it is slung on the back. I have never found an opponent be that strict with the rules to contest that.

Maybe a master of ordinance for the manticores instead of a psyker?
