Back when the index we had list that never too a Tyrant as they where trash.

Swarmlord and Broodlords where the way to go. Then the Codex came out and Flyrants where back in a big way. Now what happened to the list that had no Flyrants in that where competitive??

I see people say Broodlords aren't worth it. Is this really so?? They are fast. They can keep up with other genestealer units well and can be a big counter charge in the back field. Why aren't they still good.....

Nerothrops are best option next to Flyrants people say. I can see the attraction with a 3++. They have issues keeping up with fast assult units. And don't do much outside the one phase. Good cheap babysitting unit.

I can see the issues with tervagon it needs help.

OOE is list dependent.

Prime is list and fleet dependent. I have found him decent.Good with warrior focused. list. He is not bad but not great either.

Swarmlord is costly but works well in kraken. His issue is you need trynt guard or a pod most of the time. Can he work with a malenthroup or venomthroups -1.?? Will that make him servivable for what's needed? His oveall cost is the issue. The pod that seams to work best with him must have barbed stranglers to make it worth it. 450ish for both is ouch!! Any one make him work at the 2000 point level without pod or guard??

So with just the swarmlod, Broodlords, and nerothroup as the best options outside the Flyrants anyone having luck with list with out Flyrants or swarmy..???

This depends on your "meta"....Broodlords are just fine, untill you compare their cost to a Tyrant. Neurothropes are exelent, but the threat of a big Smite nurf keeps people from fielding too many of them. I don't think you Must take swarmy, its just one unit.

If you want to run Prime, you're looking at a warrior army, and for that Leviathan is most likely the best choice. Broodlord, and Stealers do best with Krakon.

So you could build a decent Leviaton Brigade/Battalion of leviathan, or the same with Krakon, or split the diff and build on Battalion of each to run together "Let's team up! To defeat Evil!"

so say, Leviaton

Prime, Prime

Gargoyles x2, or three

Warriors in x6, or 9 x3+

Carnifexen, or Tyrannofexen for Heavy, or Trygo for Taxi....etc and you can win games...depending on your "meta"

A differant take would be to build a Jormangandr Warrior list...

If you have the warriors available you could run a Jormy warrior brood. Everyone suggest leviathan for the 6++ but I feel the +1 armor save and deep strike is better personaly.

Either go all warriors and primes, along with trygons and ravenors (if you have the models) or do something like this to take advantage of the psychic phase:

That list looks more like a Zoanthroup list than a Warrior focus. I have yet to do that stratagem for the Zoans it looks like fun.

I like the Idea of a warrior list i think I run like 1000 point worht at least. It is a Idea for a list build.

Yeah that list is an alternative to warrior spam and is pretty nasty againgst MSU/character spam lists.

Warrior spam would of course be 2 battalions like such:

its 21 units so you could deep strike 10. Ravagers, Red Terror, Malanthrope, Prime, 2 big warrior units, both nuroes, 1 small 3 mans, and the small with adrenal.

If you space out the ravagers at 2" and put The red Terror about 4" on either side you can fit everything in a mannor to still get buffs on everything.

Your other prime and malanthrope stick with the remaining warriors and mucoloids in your deploy zone running towards objectives.

I like the concept. I thik I would put some hive guard in to deal with t8 stuff.

Why no boneswords on the Venom canon warriors?

It is worth noting that the two most popular Hive Fleet Adaptations in tournament play both synergize well with Flying Hive Tyrants. Kraken allows them to hit-and-run without any drawbacks and has a rather nifty relic for them while Leviathan naturally wants some models with the fly keyword to enable its stratagem and encourages taking lots of synapse creatures in general. Flying Tyrants also offer a lot of force concentration that can be hidden off table to keep them safe from alpha strikes and then drop them in to counter-strike. With that in mind, if you are wanting to build a list without them you will probably want to look toward a Hive Fleet adaptation that doesn't play well with Flying Tyrants (to justify their not being included) and has tools to mitigate the impact of alpha strikes as the basis for a list. Hydra or Jormungandr are particular stand-outs in this regard.

Hydra's Swarming Instincts adaptation doesn't affect single model units which pushes it towards infantry swarms innately with minimal (if any) monstrous creatures. This already makes it fairly resilient to alpha strikes since the bulk of its force ideally wants to be comprised of expendable chaff, but its version of Endless Swarm also allows critical models to be replaced if taken out too early (Hydra ideally will want to set a chunk of points aside for it anyway as it has some additional tactical utility beyond returning a destroyed unit to play). Any of the "Alpha" infantry HQ options have merit with Hydra. Brood Lords offer the fastest source of synapse available on a non-monster platform and its leadership aura for Genestealers is vicious combined with Swarming Instincts (likewise for the Prime and Warriors). Zoanthropes also are fairly useful in Hydra lists since there is generally a huge amount of infantry saturation to draw away high rate of fire guns that are their bane, so Neurothropes have a bit more utility than normal. Finally, Old One Eye is probably the only monster Hydra is comfortable taking without very specific reason, as his character status allows him to hide amongst the swarm without breaking threat saturation and he is mostly self sufficient (plus a fairly tough warlord option if needed).

Jormungandr has already been covered a little bit, so there isn't much to add. It is probably the best fleet at performing beta-strikes with its adaptation to enhance the durability of ground troops while its stratagem allows heavy hitters to be kept safe in reserve until needed. I'd also argue it is probably one of the better places to consider a Tervigon, since it can run monstrous creature spam better than most and Termagants under its adaptation are slightly more durable and thus more likely to survive to be replenished. Pure Kronos would be the other place, since it favors gunlines and replenishing screens are very useful for such lists and the Tervigon provides a reroll 1's aura for its offspring that can compensate for their need to move to bring their guns into range.
