After searching in vain for bretonnian units on eBay for a decent price I've decided to go for empire or "free guild" is it worth collecting these guys or so you think they will be phased out and replaced by some other human faction eventually?? Find it strange also how they got rid of certain units like normal cannons and Knights Im guessing thats for copyright reasons though?

Freeguild characters with all the usual 30-Years-War-era clothing are prominent in the AoS fiction (example), so they're probably not going away any time soon.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Agreed, they've made a point of including a number of conventional mortal factions as a prominent part of order. Freeguild included, and they got a (awesome) set of allegiance abilities in GHB2.

Freeguild guard at 40-man are totally op too.

Road to Renown! It's like classic Path to Glory, but repaired, remastered, expanded! https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/778170.page

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

They are not gonna go anywhere, but i guarantee you will not see model updates for them any time soon.

To many unpainted models to count.

The real question, if we want to stay in-line with how AoS has gone so far for the most part, would be which unit(s) from the old 'Empire' line will be expanded into a complete army.

Armies made up of mostly 'older' sculpts probably won't survive long-term: GW takes one of the newer kits in the faction, and pushes it out to it's own faction. As an example, I'd say Dispossessed aren't going to be around forever - but I'd be willing to bet we'll be getting an Ironbreakers-focused faction in the future.

As for Free Peoples, I'm predicting maybe an army based off of the Collegiate Arcane (the wizard kits are robust and still sell), but I don't have confidence in the rest. Free Peoples is made up of a lot of old kits and models posed for ranking-up on square bases, which are exactly the ones that are getting quietly pushed aside. They also don't really have any units with a notable 'distinct'-ness to them: that is to say, GW seems to like to take the more 'unique' units into consideration for being expanded to a faction (witch elves from dark elves, slayers from dwarfs, treants from wood elves, etc), and aside from Demigryph knights which are basically already in Stormcast Eternals, I can't think of an empire unit that would fit that bill.

I think that the witch Hunter is quite a unique character in terms of look I think they may go down that road, have them armed with repeater hand guns or something would make sense

They already have all of that stuff you just listed.

To many unpainted models to count.
