Good morning everyone! It has been a long while since I have posted in this forum. I have built my Deathguard collection up to 3500+ and gotten to play about a half dozen games with them. I have gotten to play 2 Zone Mortallis, 2 games vs Alpha Legion, One game vs Iron Warriors, and one giant 3 vs 3 Mega battle. I have narrowed down my list. My list is somewhat inspired by WWI, thus my army is kind of a mix and match of Entente and Central Powers line breaking units; Trench Raiders, WWI style tanks, artillery and spotters for that artillery. And a Dreadnought.

You may notice the random unit of Seekers. I have been experimenting with them, using them to guard an objective in my backfield and provide security for my vehicles vs deepstrike. They have proved to be strictly worse than my Recon Squad at that job. The Recon Marines can take pot shots at Quad Mortars, Robots or Primarchs while staying out of the way. They are also cheaper and more survivable. The question becomes, what do I replace them with? Right now I am mostly debating between a second Recon Squad (I have one coming in the mail), a Contemptor Dreadnought (Either two fists with Plasma Blasters or a Mortis with two Kheres Pattern Assault Cannons; I can convert either), or saving up for something more exotic. Javelin Landspeeders cost a mint and don't fit my theme well, but they are really cool and would add additional speed to the army. A Destroyer units in a Rhino, Scouting and then operating as an Assault squad with their Rad Grenades once with the opponent would be very cool and Deathguardy, but I fear it will end up like the Seekers all over again. I could just whip up some Apothecaries (I have some in the mail) and throw them in my Veteran Squads to get them additional survive-ability. With spare bits and models I could piece together a 6 man Support Weapon Squad with Plasma or Melta guns to sit in my command rhino. Or I could just whip up an additional Centurion.

Thoughts?

On the basis that the death guard geared their weapon loadouts around "bolter, melta, flamer.." to simplify the supply chain and you already have scorpius and lascannon dread, you may as well have the javelin speeders since there would be missile and energy cell supplies being brought for your other units anyway.
Your legion relies on troops for the bulk of their support so 6 man melta support squad with an apothecary is as fluffy as a bunny on a van der graph generator.

Apothecaries are a must i think!

I'd add missile launchers for your Death Guard Vets. Legion rules give them all sorts of interesting ways to ruin other peoples lives with.

Speaking of missiles, I'd ditch the recon squad in place of a Heavy Support of Heavy Flamers, Missile Launchers, or Multi-Meltas. While the H-Flamers are no surprise on why, a "Surprise MF'er" squad of Str5 Frag missiles can give you opponent pause for thought... or panic.
Plus the ability to take out flyers with them is a must take for you.

Destroyer Squads (no jump packs) in a Land raider Proteus are another source of unnecessary panic for your personal amusement.
Tear their HQ's to pieces with them.

Typhon: I actually run the Veterans because of the Flamers. They wound on 4s always rerollabe. On a 6 to wound they are Ap2 due to Sniper. They Outflank so they can get close. They just obliterated infantry. They have 3 attacks each before the charge and those Chemflamers are great for Overwatch fire. Combined with the Meltabombs to pressure enemy armor they swiftly overwhelm the flanks and backfield. The Damocles rhino ensures they come in. If I wanted to get the better drag missile choices I would need to disassemble the whole list. My Contemptor Mortis deals with flyers. I like the Destroyers as an idea, but what would I cut to afford that LR?
EDIT: I would have to lose my Rite of War or my Whirlwind Scorpii to get the Heavy Weapon squads, in addition to acquiring the bits for their armament. The Scorpius tanks are my answers to quad mortars, medusas, and anything squatting in a rhino. Heck they destroy Sicarans ahead of my armor. I am not sure I want to lose the utility they offer or my preferred Rite of War.

Sir Donald: I think I agree on the Apothacaries, should I bling them out with Artificer armor and power swords or go basic and find 60 points of upgrades elsewhere? If so, any recomendations?
