Hello, I'm planning up a Militarum Tempestus army and threw this one together, I'm curious to hear all of your opinions. And I know, that when I actually make anything it'll obviously have Grand Strategist, I just really chuckle at the idea of someone trained well enough that he can deny the witch without being a psyker. So the general idea is having the plasma guns taking care of most the big stuff, then having plenty of other plasma to and a few Primes to deal with anything that remains, and the other four primes, a bunch of hot shot lasguns fire, and a few well placed volley guns to deal with the hoards. Thoughts, concerns, general philosophies on life?

I think you can break off 1 hq choice from each of your battalions and combine them with your psyker to form a supreme command detachment for +1 CP instead of -1.

No because then I'll lose a command squad since you can only bring them per prime, and supreme command only has one elite slot.

I could easily drop a few plasma, then make a patrol out of the Primaris and another Scion or other troop, but I just love the symmetry of this list too much.

Ah fair enough. Could possibly work in a vanguard then but your list is very symmetrical and tbh i like it a lot. Post a batrep sometime!

Oh I could easily get rid of the -1 by doing some shuffling of either points or units without a major impact on the list, the problem is people are still arguing about whether bringing auxiliaries prevents you from using Tempestus Militarum regiment rules or not. So I'll take the 1 point hit to not have to deal with that argument. Not to mention it's still 8, and voice of command/Kurov’s Aquila I should still have plenty.

I am curious how you get 45pts for Tempestor Prime? Shouldnt they be 40 pts? That would save you 30pts... just curious if im missing something

In chapter approved they made the command rod cost 5 pts.

Hey mate this list will die in seconds against any armies that have a lot of -1 to hit. You can reroll 1s with overcharged plasma but you'd be dying on 2s and 3s against -1 and -2. And if you don't overcharge you're not doing much at S7 1 damage. Any plasma list needs yarrick for the free rerolling of 1s so that you can use the order of rerolling wounds against vehicles and monsters to really destroy them while rerolling 1s to not die from overcharging.

I just put a list up combing with cadian to deal with -1 to hit lists such as alaitoc or lists with a lot of flyers, like a dark eldar list full of venoms and jets. Your plasma will get minced in a turn against lists that stop you from overcharging.

Falling in love with plasma will hurt your chances of winning buy a long way, there isn't enough balance in this list because of the things I've just said.

Remember scions are just t3 with a 4+ save. Your command squads will die the turn they drop in, and half your troops will go or flee with leadership 6.

Scions struggle like hell against -1 to hit because it takes away there stormtroopers buff of extra shots on rolls of 6 too. It's a fun list don't get me wrong but to be competitive you need a strategy to deal with anti air. Best way is to look outside the scion lists and add some cadians and especially Pask. Alternatively lots of flamers work well against flyers because they don't need to roll to hit

Oh I never said it would be competitive, it'll just be fun. And yeah, Scion Command Squads are suicide squads, we all know this.

And I am actually still having that argument with people, either the -1 or -2 doesn't make it explode, or it also makes me reroll 1 results with take aim. Because if it's a 1 it explodes, but also if it's a 1 it rerolls, people can't have it both ways. Also can you tell me what page the rule that says a 2-1 makes it explode? I swear everyone says it but I've read through a few times and can't freaking find anything that would even imply that.

Ya I think it's only ever a natural roll of 1 that causes an overheat but maybe the FAQ changed something.

Well someone finally gave me the faq where they made that idiotic ruling, bright side I finally actually know where it comes from. Still nonsense though. "I'm harder to hit, so your gun is going to blow up more often!" What?

And man, that foolishness really, really makes Tempestus suck. I don't care about it being competitive but it really kills their fun abilities. I might just go make a Farsight army or something.

Does getting +1 to hit mean it's impossible to overheat?

Somehow, yes.

Some things to watch out for.

1. As of then new FAQ they added a new "recomendation" like the 3 detachment limitation of making all Datasheets excluding Troops and Transports 0-3. Right now it looks like alot of people are going to be adopting this not saying your group will be be aware.

2. Your you to have to start with 6 of your Tempestus units on the field in addition to the Tauroxes because you have to have 1/2 your army on the table be aware. (They also added a beta rule that the 1/2 starting on the table has to be Equal or Greater PL then the units in reserve)

3. They have added another beta rule where you can not deep strike outside of your own deployment on Turn 1. (Really not a fan of this one)

4. Don't worry too much about the -1 to hit. Pretty much on all of those is if you are further out then 12 in. And with your deep strike you should be able to stay within that.

1 I'm not worried about that (Because unless I go to above 3k points I can field three detachments no problem.)

2 Indeed, that's what the two volleygun command squads are for. And if I'm not mistaken being in a transport counts as being on the table.

3. Well that sucks!... Where are these other beta rules? The only ones I know of are psyker and character targeting based.

4. That's also true... I may also be looking for an excuse to resurrect my old Farsight army... Hehe, I have one of the old models of him!

Ok, I just went and read that, well thanks for the "screw any Tempestus army you wanna make." gamesworkshop.

Aah, yeah its such a shame that GW slightly nerfed one of the most boring and broken lists

Broken lists? What ork shrooms have you been smoking? A tempestus army isn't going to win any tournaments any time soon.

Three detachments max, but also three times the same datasheet (expect troops and transports) max.
So with these optional rules, you can't take more than 3 Tempestor primes and 3 command squads.

Yes, that was before I went and read the faq. But I'm considering a few ways to reqork it. I have a nice 1k option.

My only thought would be to drop the Taurox Primes for regular Taurox to save on points and then just reallocate for either more squads or special weapons. From the look of your list you could save close to 200 points with the simple change and then get more units.

I think I also may be confused why you are taking the auxiliary detachment. Why not just put it in one of the Battalions? Or, you could also used the saved points from changing the Taurox's and use it to turn the aqillary into a spearhead with the simple addition of mortars to fill out the requirements

The aux is just because people are idiots and argue about the wording of the Tempestus regiment about taking auxiliaries. And I don't care enough to get into that argument despite the obviousness of me being correct.

Also I have to ask why you hate primes so much? They're great little gun boxs.

Also he would lose the Militarum Tempestus bonus if he takes regular Taurox.

You could roll with some more hot shot volley guns in the wake of the FAQ. I don't think plasma got too hugely nerf'd but you could massage the ratio some if you like and save some points.

Then you could take some medi packs
