Good Monday everyone.

Those sweet, sweet metal shield tokens are up for grabs, and though I don't think I'll get them, I'm vacillating between two lists. I'll of course play them a few times before then, but not much because the Q1 is on the 24th. The Alpha Condor Challenge is a local tourney to unite all the province's squadrons for a fun, prize-filled day. That one has a bit more time on the table for it.

So, I've always wanted to put Mean Girls on the table, and now that my second Lancer is painted, I can finally do so:

Asajj Ventress (37)
Lone Wolf (2)
Latts Razzi (2)
Glitterstim (2)
Glitterstim (2)
Countermeasures (3)

Ketsu Onyo (38)
Expertise (4)
Dengar (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Shadow Caster (3)

Total: 100

Otherwise I'm thinking I don't feel right winning with Scum, so maybe I should give this a try:

Lowhhrick (28)
Selflessness (1)
Tactician (2)
C-3PO (3)

Ello Asty (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Flight-Assist Astromech (1)
Advanced Optics (2)
Autothrusters (2)
Black One (1)

Fenn Rau (Sheathipede) (20)
Lone Wolf (2)
Weapons Engineer (3)
M9-G8 (3)

Total: 99

Yeah, it's in Quebec, but almost all of us speak some form of English or another.

I can't find any faults with the twin shadows list, I'd go for that.

Likewise, though I found k4 better than Dengar though that was due to my meta and the fact that red dice hate me.

A lot of our meta is 2 or 3 named pilots. Even single reroll against someone you haven't locked is golden. Because I move at rather low PS, if I lock a slippery ace, I might not get to use it. Plus not locking doesn't turn on as much pressure at first.

For example, QD+Inqui,+Yorr or a Number or Rho or even Vestal have popped up.

Lancer list looks solid, Lone Wolf with two big base ships might need some careful flying but thats a play matter rather than a list matter

Best of luck

Thanks.

I can generally keep Lone Wolf active for one or two turns before I need to cross the streams and then it comes back on, hopefully having done enough damage in the meantime.

My conundrum is thus, mostly: I can reliably get a bump from a ship (or two) in Ketsu's front arc on the opening engagement. I'm tempted not to move the ship so it doesn't have an opportunity to attack Ketsu, but rather rely on Asajj to inflict damage from afar. It's just a lot less damage than an extra 4 red dice to the face. Personally, are you more of a slow n'steady player, or have-them-choke-on-lAzors player?

The Inquisitor is a lot less scary when he gets 2 tractor beam tokens assigned to himself.

So there was an interesting discussion last night after the Challenge was done and packed up.

My last game was against a local who has special dice. They are white dice, but with symbols of the relevant colour (and correct shape) that I've seen use in casual games and such. He needs to get surgery for cataracts, and he tells me they allow him to see the results better. Being one for inclusion, I don't mind.

At the bar, we get into this discussion about third party dice (the player wasn't there) and they TOs for the PTL and Canadian Nationals and producers for VTTV live all say that they banned him from using them at the Nationals this year on the basis that they were third party.

One of them even goes further and says that (and I swear I didn't notice) he kept rolling official dice when dealing damage, but using his other dice while going through enemy bombs and mines.

I'd also heard some gripe about dice given at Regionals and National events, that had bubbles in them (that you could see on some clear batches)... so, where do you fall?

I just ordered that sweet pair of golden dice from All Wings (which was another point of contention from the producers of VTTV. The damage decks are much harder to read on camera and people tend not to hold them in front of the camera for very long) I'm fully expecting to be told not to use them at "premier" events, but I'm hoping I can use them in casual games?

I've seen too many issues with non-standard dice to be super happy with them. (3rd party dice that seem to roll paint more often, official tourney prize dice that roll blanks over and over and over, other peoples' dice that were too dark to see the results from across the table, etc etc).

I won't usually begrudge people with unique dice in casual games (and never the "official prize dice"), but I generally prefer if everyone's using the standard. Admittedly it's not perfect (many standard dice sets are wonky - I know people have gone through core sets + dice expansions and checked individual dice to see if they're fair; TL;DR they are not always so). Nevertheless, it eases up on the feeling that the dice are unfairly impacting the game.

And I don't just mean when I lose. I've had some games that I won because my opponent's non-standard dice went blank round after round after round, beyond what seemed like random chance. It didn't feel super great to win just because I could throw red dice and have paint show up.

I'm not super picky, as long as the dice pips match the same pips as the FFG ones. If I find a die with only one blank and all crits I'm going to be steamed for example. (Has that ever happened though? )

That does sound well dodgy, I cant say as I am a fan of alternate dice (official or not),the gold and silver sets especially as I find them really hard to see over a table. But my biggest gripe is when someone uses a load of different dice all together especially when they are a mix of normal, crystal, marbled and alternate colours as I find it takes me a bit longer to work out what they just rolled. Whilst it isn't a major problem I just don't like anything that slows the game down more.

I'm tempted to start noting the results of my gold dice when they come in. It'd be nice to see if they follow the curve over, say, 2000 individual rolls.

Not that I'd ever use that data in a pedantic way to bully my way into a tourney, Just my need to know.

I came into the game being more of a rpg player, so to me alternate dice in cool colors is the norm. I recently bought some third party X-wing dice from ebay and they seem decent enough.

Of course I'd ask my opponent's permission in casual games since it seems like people can be wary of different dice.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

IMO you can use your fancy dice, but your opponent has the right to use them too (just like with custom templates). If you insist on keeping them to yourself then you'd better find some official dice to use instead.

This is 100% unacceptable. You use one set of dice for everything, period. Special dice for different purposes is a giant red flag for cheating.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Agreed. And I will be more aware of this going forward. It's just some people have a pile of dice sometimes next to their cards (à la Nathan Eide, for example) and they just seem to pick and choose at random. But if he systematically chooses dice on purpose, we're going to have to address this.

I would totally let an opponent borrow my gold dice. Rolling that miraculous evade on a gold dice or having that hit on a major explosion can be quite climactic.
