I'm looking at starting a craftworlds army, so I'm wondering what would be considered a 'competitive' starting point. I understand that 'competitive' and 'starting point' rarely go together, but I'm a student and can't afford to spam multiple units just at the moment just anything around or under 1000 is my aim for now.

I'm loving the farseer skyrunner and also shining spears, and may spam on the spears if they're as good in practice as they look on the page. I'm also definitely looking more at fast-moving units than the standard 8" troop movement, just because I personally prefer faster (and often flying) units.

My current idea is:

Farseer Skyrunner
5x shining spears (1x exarch - may up to 8x and 2x at a later date)
1x wraithknight
1x crimson hunter (may up to 2x)


Any ideas on where to go next, or where to change this list, would be appreciated more options with the 'fly' keyword would be fantastic, but I appreciate I may have to put up with troops at some point

You do seem to have a good mix of stuff, but you may end up hurting on the command points if you only go for spamming Shining Spears. You can use the <Ulthwe> Craftworld Warlord Trait to get a chance of some extra Command Points, but that would stop you getting the <Alaitoc> Craftword ability (the -1 to hit at long range).

Perhaps, if you weren't keen on Craftworld Troops to bulk out your army, you could consider using Harlequins? They're also very fast, you could put them in Starweavers for a pretty fast and surprisingly durable alpha strike. Taking 3 five man troupe of Harlequins in these Starweavers, plus another HQ to match your Shadowseer would give 5 CP with the new FAQ, and that would be a handy CP generator for your Eldar Shining Spears attack force.

You're probably going to lack a lot of long ranged firepower - the Wraithknight would pretty much be your main source of long ranged shooting, and is the primary target here. To give you a bit more durability at range, I'd certainly consider the Alaitoc trait, to give you that -1 to hit outside of 12". All you really have to do is stay 19" away from most units, who will move about 6", then shoot - however, you'll be out of Rapid Fire range on most guns, and also will still get your -1 to hit. Then, the speed of your jetbikes should be able to make up the distance and get into a nice charge,

I don't know how invested you are in the wraithknight, but from what I understand it isn't a competitive unit under the current dex. It's less durable/killy than an imperial knight while costing the same or more, and knights themselves aren't all that popular now.
