So, this came up in a game today... vehicles can only ever get cover if theyre both in area terrain and 50% obscured. What about units of vehicles though? If a squad of two sentinels, kastellans etc is more than 50% obscured, but the other isnt, does the unit benefit from cover? What if one is 75% obscured and the other 25%? Or one completely and the other not at all?
We werent quite sure how to handle it.
Any ideas? Or am I missing something really obvious and am apparently completely blind?

Well, if you are not using Advanced Rules, as pere page 181, a unit just has to be entirely on, or within a terrain feature to gain cover, no mention of Vehicle keyword, or 50% obscure.

However, I assume you are using the Battlfield Terrain Advanced rules on page 248-250. Where is states in all the selections that 'Other units only receive the benefit of cover if at least 50% of every model is actually obscurred'

So, Every model in a unit has to be 50% obscured.

Though, this is all just from the BRB, no FAQ's or Eratta's. They could glean more information.

As far as I can tell each model has to be 50% obscured. And there was the FAQ where they cleared up that if one model does not have cover, none of the unit has cover. It makes it tough for vehicle unit, but fortunately a lot of vehicle squadrons split into separate units upon being put on the table.

Ah, thanks for that! Makes it a bit more difficult for my Kastellans, but oh well. Its not like they dont make up for it in damage. Thanks for clearing it up!
