This week I’ve been working on the final Primaris Officer from the Dark Imperium box set for my growing force of super-marines, namely the ‘shooty’ Lieutenant who is armed with an auto bolt rifle and bolt pistol.

Like all the Primaris Marines that I have worked on so far he was an absolute joy to paint.

I’ll probably use this guy to hang back and support my multiple Intercessor squads on the firing line.

Next up I’ll probably look at doing some more basic troops in order to pad out the force’s overall numbers. There’s a little more detail to be found on my blog:

He looks really good - even in super size, which is quite a compliment btw - I often find if I look at mine through a magnifying glass they can be unflattering in places

The photos on your blog are much better. Thanks for sharing.

how the hell do you get the edge high lighting so consistent? The shoulder pads are insane! Do you do the light colour 1st then run a black pen round the pad before filling in the main blue?

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

In answer to your question mate I paint the whole thing Kantor blue; then apply a wash of Nuln Oil mainly in the recesses, I touch up the Kantor Blue and then use a very steady hand and some heavily diluted Calgar Blue to do the highlights in the shoulder pad. I then touch this up with a very fine layer of Fenrisian Grey. If necesssary I will get an Army Painter Insane Detail brush and paint in a very fine layer of black between the shoulder pad rim and the highlight. I hope this helps.

Would have loved it if you had a great cheat rather than it being just insane skill!!

Sorry mate! No cheats I’m afraid... all I can say is dilute the black heavily with Lahiam Medium and it will naturally want to go to the right area on the shoulder pad!

That being said my mate swears by using a black finetip pen for similar effects!
