Do the White scars mark their sergeants or veterans etc? Like for example the Ultramarines do with diffierent colours on their helmets.

White scars use various Lightning zags across their armor, helmets, and greaves as squad markings. The Sergeants might have more zags painted, or real scratches on their helmets to represent their more numerous facial scars.

If you look at the Death Watch biker, his helmet comes with an engraved scar.
