Found an old poll on this (https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/338698.page), but as this was in 2011, I wanted to check if the results had changed at all or if it was any different now.

I voted, but locally? Easily 20-30 is about 75% of what I see.

I should clarify, if you go to shops, you'll see 20-30 almost exclusively. I think the older crowd has houses, and has wisened up and is playing with a couple of friends at home, and not going out seeking random pick-up games at FLGS, etc.

I just turned 26 last month. And I'm being lumped in with the rest up to 30. You made me feel old.

Why do these whippersnappers get so many options, like there's any real difference between a 16 and 21 year old!

34 by the way. :(

Something to remember-this won't give you a good spread of ages of those who play 40k. It'll only give you a good spread of those who frequent this forum.

Older folk might be more in the hobby, but just not use the internet as much as us young whippersnappers.

20+ years olds remember how old 40k was like or how bad GW used to treat people so it's understandable they're the people who stay here to complain all the time. XD

Actually most young people avoid facebook right now. Reddit and 4chan is where you'll find the young people this days.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Total poll fail with category overlap on four categories. OP knew that was a thing, clearly, but failed anyway.

Poll is malformed, has overlapping brackets.

Secondly, the average age of Dakka users is not the average age of 40k players. The average age would be around 13 since GW's entire marketing strategy revolves around getting kids to spend mummy's credit card on £200 of models then quit after 3 weeks, rather than targeting the adults who've been playing for 20+ years with income to spend.

Any proof for that, statistics, sources or anything? Or are you just making that up ?

I think this thread could help GW.

Just realised the overlapping age ranges, and after I specifically thought about if for the younger ranges
I'm aware that this only shows the average age of a 40K player in this forum, but I imagine this should still provide a rough idea of the spread of users. Thanks to all those who have taken the poll so far!

Also, can anybody point me towards a semi-recent poll post about the main armies of players, as I would be interested to compare that with these old results again https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/435468.page

It is possible the young folk today don't use forums much and prefer to communicate on more modern social media platforms... (I am told even Facebook is old fashioned now and not popular with young people...)

Also, I keep getting older...

Agreed it is malformed, but not for overlap. The problem is with 14-16 and 17-19. If you are 16 years and 35 days, you are between the categories. With 20-25 and 25-30, if you are 24 years and 364 days, you are in 20-25. As soon as the first second of your 25th birthday hits, you will be in the 25-30 group.
