If I run a battle forged codex army, do I HAVE to replace objectives 11-16 with the ones from my codex? I run foot guard, so the 'kill a unit with a vehicle' objective is literally impossible. I'd much rather play with the generic 'secure objective' cards. At the last tournament I was told I had to use the codex ones by some opponents. Is that true?

It is worded as compulsory.
The only way to get around it is to have a warlord from another faction.

At least for my copy of the current IG Codex, the language is:
"If your army is lead by an Astra Militarum Warlord, these Tactical Objectives replace the Capture and Control Tactical Objectives (numbers 11-16) in the Warhammer 40,000 rulebook."
The rest of the rule also specifically directs you to generate one of the Codex-specific objectives for 11-16 if you ever generate a Capture and Control tactical objective.
As the rule does not give you an option such as you may replace the rulebook tactical objectives with these it is a mandatory replacement as written. Your options are to either use a Warlord from a faction that uses the standard deck or talk to the TO at any future tournaments that use Tactical Objectives to see if they would give you flexibility.

Fair enough! I'm surprised they made it mandatory tbh. I don't have the IG TO cards, just the standard ones. Might have to pick some up to save looking in the book all the time...

You might want to check with the TO as some tournaments are very stict in you play the cards as delt, while some do allow impossible objectives to be immediately discarded, IE witch hunter against TAU, or any other army without a psyker.
This can also vary some will say it's still considered a valid tactical objective if they have a psyker in their list but not on the field. IE he's already dead, you can't complete it, but the objective was valid for this list. Other's would say thats a discard objective as you can not complete it now.

To be 100% technical, using cards is not the correct way to do things, you're supposed to roll a D66 for them. The cards are just a convenient way of doing that. If you don't own the faction cards, you can use the normal deck and when you draw 11-16 just look at the codex for what you actually have to do.
I will agree and confirm that it is compulsory to change them though.

To be fair most of the tournaments I go to the rulespack demands that you used the standard ones as most of the codex ones are just wonkey

I hate most of the Faction specific cards.
Out of all my armies, the Daemons ones are at least sensible and achievable.
Death Guard, Space Marine, and CSM ones are bad enough to prevent me from taking a Warlord from their detachment. And they all have good WL traits.

To slightly hijack this thread.
If your warlord faction changes during the game (Because of the Custodes Stratagem "Shoulder the Mantle") do the 6 objectives also change?

'Shoulder the Mantle' requires you to chose a SHIELD-CAPTAIN to be your new Warlord. Your Warlord would still be an Adeptus Custodes.

Yes but you can start the game with a non Custodes warlord, like an IG Commander.

Hmm
I would say. Yes it does.
As the warlord now is a Custodes Warlord, hense the tactical objectives follow the Custodes ones.
Interestingly enough though, this would mean you could potentially change how you would do battle with your army halfway through the battle

I agree the objectives do change, however already generated objectives do NOT change. "when an Adeptus Custodes player generates a Capture and Control objective (numbers 11-16), they instead generate the corresponding Adeptus Custodes Tactical Objective, as shown below." The replacement only happens when you generate it. So if you had a SM Warlord, generated objective 11, then the Warlord Died and you used Shoulder the Mantle, you'd keep the SM objective 11.
