So i recently began collecting team yankee, got a hold of a box of leo 2s tanks for the west germans.
Thing is, i have a bunsh of GW colours but nothing else.

Any tips on what GW colours i should use to get as clouse as i can to the historical correct Nato camo pattern, and the infantry uniforms?

Vallejo would work fine...they're about $2.50 a bottle, you could get the ones necessary for $10-15.

You can Use this chart to workout equivalent colours in the GW range

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Which however does not cover the Battlefront paint range. For Team Yankee if you're using one of Battlefront's painting guides, you'll have to reference the pages HERE, HERE and HERE to the Colours of War Conversion Chart for the Vallejo equivalents first before checking to see if there is a acceptable equivalent in the GW range.

Those team yankee color sets are off. its pretty bad.

Ether get the vallejo nato color set or match those colors into the dakka dakka color conversion chart to get close.

If you're looking for accuracy on the paints, what you can do is look up the FS series numbers for standard NATO paints - they should be there - they're very definitive on what those numbers are with respect to the paint you are looking for, shouldn't be too hard to locate.

Most of the paint charts out there include the FS (Federal Standard) numbers as a source of reference. That would be your best bet is to grab the FS numbers and go from there.

The problem with using exact equivalents of the Federal Standard colors is that they don't take scale effect into account as seen in the following article:

While that may as well be, he's trying to find the GW paints closest to the proper NATO colours, as per the Original Post, so he's already going to compromise to get there, might as well try and find the closest to the FS numbers if Anything.

And you're not going to find any Games Workshop paint that's an equivalent to a Federal Standard color in use for NATO camouflage.

You entirely missed the second part of my comment. Yes, he's going to use GW paints, ok, but if you're going to look on paint equivalency charts to try an find the GW colours that work, you might as well start with the ACTUAL colours instead of ones compensating for the distortion of scale.

GW paints means compromise, might as well start as close to the mark as you can get.

Again, GW's paints are so far off Federal Standard colors that any equivalency chart is useless. For example, Vallejo Russian Uniform has been the go to color for British tanks for Flames of War for years. According to multiple sources (including Vallejo) the Citadel equivalent for Russian Uniform is Mechanicus Standard Grey. The closest color in the GW line may be so far off as to be an entirely different color.
