As asked, what's the best order? I just finished "a thousand sons" and was going to pick up crimson king next, but what's after that chronologically? When does the ahriman books kick in?

To many unpainted models to count.

The Crimson King & Prospero burns are both excellent books which heavily feature The Thousand Sons.

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

I’ve just finished reading Magnus’ Primarch series book.

It’s set after Prospero Burns, but also is mainly surrounding a story set prior to the Heresy. Definitely a book to add into the reading order!
