Fleshing out my ork army for 8th. I already have 15 stormboyz and im wondering how many more i should get. Is the rule still bring ad many nobs as you can? Or are people finding success with maxing squads. I kind of like the idea of having more stormboyz than normal boyz but with no codex its hard to tell if thats a crash and burn kind of idea. Orks are my "just for fun" army so i already know the margins for success on them are low. Thanks for the help

Stormboyz are one of the better units for orks right now. Since they don't have a green tide rule, there is no downside to bringing MSU.

The Nob boss in the squad are still useful but they aren't the one Ork murder machines that they use to be due to how much less effective PKs have become. The base boy (or stormboy in this case) is more effective than before so lots of boyz is what you want over a bunch of smaller squads for multiple PK deliveries. With the current mob rule the bigger the squad the better the morale so big squads can endure heavy shooting and keep on trucking. Just make sure you have multiple big squads (be it boyz, kommandos, stormboyz, etc) to ensure high leadership.

The Ork codex might be here soonish and so its a huge toss up what GW will do to the Orks. Not saying to avoid doing anything but maybe not go hog wild with purchases until you know that GW didn't completely ruin stormboyz or something (not that there is any reason to nerf them but GW's track record with designing Ork rules is poor at best).

The max you can bring is 90, assuming you follow the new 'rule of three'.

Def get 30 stronq squads. 15 will be shot down fast. More squads could be good or they might get nerfed so don't invest too much now if not in a hurry.

0 because only 5 cheap ork units in a box for that price is a ripp off!

If price is issue convert or buy alternatives. Either way they are only option if you want something other than boyz to list

Buy assault marine Jump Packs. Cut them in half and strap them to some boys. That’s how my army is and it costs about $13 US for enough jump packs for 20 Ork Boys.

As for the Stormboyz they are passable for me. I’d rather deep strike 30 Ork Boyz than footslog even if the Storm Boyz are 12 in movement b

Stormboyz are one of the best units in the ork index alongside boyz. I've tried running 2 units of 20 on the flanks and they worked great. Though, the more you bring - the better they become.

You can only deep strike one unit per turn. Seeing you are better of having 5+ units...Oh and deep strike is 9" charge so you are looking at next turn charge reliably anyway so you need faster anyway. Not so much issue vs h2h armies but with gunlines boyz will be looking T3 charges often enough. With stormboyz T2 with some spare.

Orks after Da Jump have a 48% chance of making the charge with 'ere We Go and 52% with a CP re-roll. If you're going to Da Jump anything it should just Regular Boyz (or MANZ lol) and move up Stormboys normally.

If you wanna go extra silly and inefficient, bring a Warboss on Bike. As per the Special Snowflake FAQ you can advance and charge with the Warbosses Aura instead of the Full Throttle Rule.

Up to 90. Even 5 are a decent unit. 60 are quite scary: two big mobs of 30 or even 3x20 are very solid. Don't bother with zaggy, a biker boss is way better. I alway give their nobz a big choppa since they can't get the +1A for being 20+ in the unit anyway and they're priority target in turn 1, more than a game they've been wiped out before even moving a single one of them.

The original kit is utterly expensive and I can't stand the models either, they look too comic. I love the older stromboyz instead which were identical to boyz but with a metal rocket on their backs. I've made my stormboyz just adding a scratch built rocket (in plasticard, with the upper part in green stuff) on the back of regular boyz which I bought for dirt cheap on ebay approx 1 year ago.

Right now, all the Stormboyz.

But your codex is probably here within two months, so just wait for that before spending absolutely obscene amounts of money on Stormboyz. Really, they're just stupidly expensive.

I would say no less than 40. 30 in one mob and 10 to mob up.
10 can be placed in a battle wagon gaining the extra 3" of movement, mob up and charge. I'm still kicking that idea around, not sure if I like it. But at least 40 Stormboys. is my answer. the real problem is how quickly they can be gunned down on the table.

Sigh, Yet another doomed attempt by man to bridge the gap between the material and spiritual worlds

Very quickly. They're just boyz with tokkit packs attached to their backs

Dude if you can afford 90, bring 90. Stormboyz are like the coolest kit we have right now; in rules and in looks imo.

If he doesn't have 90 right now not recommendable buying 90. Looks like he has 15 so that would be 209£ which could end up nerfed to death in codex. With codex only few months away risky to invest much on anything.

So apparently they're having a deal on the GDubs store.

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Da-Vulcha-Skwad

15 Sb's and Zagstruck for 50lbs ($70). If you're looking for storm boys, this might be for you?

Just happened across it right after reading this thread.

50£ for pound payers. With standard non-GW discount I can get 15£ for 42£(well bit less). It's good if you want the special character who goes for 15£ but not good beyond that as you don't want to pay 8£ for multiples of that special character. (and I'm hampered in that my stormboyz are not goff's. Well no big deal now but when codex comes they will be blood axes since they are most well known for stormboyz)

For me the price is not a huge issue, but the fact that they are such a PITA to paint! I mean it takes about 5 times longer to paint a Stormboy compared to a Boy. They're beautiful models don't get me wrong, but after about ten or so the painting gets pretty tedious and it's hard to quickpaint them because they have so many nooks and crannies that you need to hit with your brush. I'd love to have 60 of them but man I do not have the patience. :(

To make cheap storm Boyz, just get normal Boyz and plasticard tubes at about 8-10mm and plsticard, sheet, about 2mm. Make rockets and glue them on.

I dont play Orks, but looking over the index i would for sure do 90 of them lol.

I've made 30+ of them exactly like that saving a huge 60-70% of the stormboyz retail price, you just need to find a good deal on ebay for regular boyz and invest a few hours for the conversion.

Boyz are like Dakka. The correct answer is always "Moar".

I had a buddy back in fourth who ran a ton of Stormboyz, but they were just regular Boyz with Pen Springs at the bottom of their feet. That could be another, really goofy, but cheap way to make them

Gargoyle-riding Boyz were my favorite Stormboyz to go up against.
