I'm slowly building up my force of Crimson Fists, model by model. I started in november so I'm still very slow, but I'm trying to improve my technique with every model I paint. Right now I'm working my way through dark imperium, but I may take a bit of a break and paint some other figures in between. Hope you like them, any feedback, critique, comments or ideas are welcome!

The first Intercessor squad, painted last autumn.

Next came the Primaris Captain.

Was lucky enough to get a Redemptor Dreadnought for christmas, it was a blast to paint but took me a long time. Tried to work on blending and freehands on this one.

Next came a squad of Hellblasters, first attempt at painting a (semi-covered) face.

And the Ancient, thought the banner was a lot of fun to paint.

Finally my latest models, the inceptors from Dark Imperium. Love these guys, such great sculpts!

These are some seriously impressive Crimson Fists, and for five months work it is actually really good progress.

Not sure if it's your first time painting miniatures, or perhaps just Space Marines, but either way you have done a fantastic job!

Thank you so much! They are my first miniatures but I do feel like I have a bit of a head start since I work in graphic design/illustration and have done some larger scale painting before on canvas and board. I'm glad you like them!

Thank you all so much for the kind words! It's very encouraging. Right now I'm working on a couple of Deathwing Termies for a friend, but I'll soon be back to my fists.

Great paintwork. Not a fan of blue miniatures based on black/grey bases, but I can overlook that based on how well done the work is! Excellent.

My friend is painting 27 Deathwing terminators at the same time, so I said I could help him out with a couple. It was a fun change to paint some beige armor instead of dark blue!

Finally finished the chapter master for my Crimson Fists and can't wait to have him take the field in battle!

He was mostly made from the Pedro Kantor model (finecast ugh) and one of the Dark Imperium lieutenants, and I stole the cape and iron halo from the DI gravis captain. Both working with finecast and my first experience with green stuff gave me a hard time and there are many rough spots, especially at the shoulder joints, but I'm pretty happy with how the end result came out. I left out the banner on OG Pedro's back since I think it looks a bit silly and unpractical, but I built up his base to compensate for the height difference (and to make him a more imposing figure on the battlefield).

It was a ton of fun to do the freehand on the cape since it was a fairly large canvas and I'm looking forward to trying more bigger freehands in future projects.

Thank you all for the kind words! It's very encouraging. After I've painted a shadespire warband, I'm going to keep adding to this force, next up is another squad of intercessors and some converted vanguard vets.

Pedro’s cloak is unbelievablely good, excellent painting! I think that I remember you posting it on Reddit?

I sometimes wonder how the Crimson Fists always manage to get themselves into last stand situations

@OP your freehand skills are just over the top really. Excellent work.

Looking at the Deathwing Terminators up close the only thing I would recommend to take your painting even further is to thin your paints a little bit more. It's not a big deal but getting rid of the "gloopiness" in some areas would really benefit the end result.

Regardless, outstanding work.

Finished another squad of Intercessors, tried to do a clean style that would be a little quicker for these line troops.

Thank you!

The blue armor is just the citadel recipe from the app. Kantor blue base - Alaitoc blue first highlight - Hoeth blue second highlight (only on prominent and upward-facing edges). I also black-line recesses with watered down Abbadon black, since a wash doesn't give a very satisfying result on the dark blue armor.

Edit: For the models that have more blended shading, I've used mixes and glazes of the above colors, as well as an extreme highlight of Ulthuan grey on the very brightest points.

I added a Predator to the ranks for some anti-tank punch. I've magnetized the turret so it can swivel and the main gun so I can switch between autocannon and lascannon. It did very well on its first outing, smoking a couple Leman Russ tanks like it was nothing before blowing up to an unexpected sneaky melta attack.
