Hey, Folks recently I signed up for a local Path to Glory campaign over the next 5-6 weeks, I planned on brings some Maggotkin wanted to know what you guys thought of the initial list. I'm new to Nurgle so I'm still getting the feel for it. I picked up a Forgeworld Exaulted Greater Daemon of Nurgle years ago finally getting around to using it so I'm proxying it for Great Unclean One.

Here's what I'm thinking:

So first question is how strong do you want things, with a side question of what house rules are in play. Second is take witherstave instead. Just do it, it's the best artifact in the game and Path to Glory warbands will often have trouble putting down a GUO anyways. Finally, is there anyone running Legions of Nagash?

I want to be as strong as possible, I heard a few hardcore people are entering this so I want to have half a chance. With regards to rules as far as I'm aware, Everything is being done completely by the Path to Glory book except with summoning you can summon whatever is on your roster. We aren't starting for another 2 weeks so ill know more within the next few days. So far about 8-9 people including myself are signing up for this and I only know what 4 people are playing beyond that as far as I know no one is playing LON. But I know the store owner does own a death army but he said he was thinking about playing Durdian or Fyreslayers.

When you say 'summon what's on your roster' what do you mean by that?

From what I understood of how it was explained to me, Armies that could summon could only summon from what was on there Warband Table(roster). I'd have to double check on that it's still confusing to me lol. I think they only had Death and Tzeentch in mind when they were thinking about summoning house rules.

Ok, that's a big deal because it means you can summon stuff using contagion points. Last question; you are obviously picking your starting warband but do you also get to pick what you add on, or do you have to roll for it?

I'm assuming in my case I would use my contagion points as normal if summoning isn't banned, We are picking the add on's.

Ok. Well first off the sky is the limit for how hard things can be broken with those house rules. So you may just run up against something you won't be able to beat. For example, Tzeentch chain summon that can drop however many daemons the player owns on the table in one magic phase.

Now that said, something to remember is that the Lord of Afflictions is your most choice-efficient option to add; 220 points worth at the cost of only one follower choice. So you will want to add as many of these as you happen to own. Your ideal starting warband will be:

GUO (witherstave, grandfather's gift, sumptuous pestilence)
Lord of Afflictions
Lord of Afflictions

But it's really a matter of what you actually own. Add as many lords of afflictions as you can, then add as many poxbringers as you can, then roll on the champion reward chart. Avoid elite rolls so you can hit the 10 glory mark asap, and hope you don't end up fighting someone who cheesed harder. Don't worry about adding basic troops to the warband since you can easily summon them to camp objectives using contagion points.

When playing, try to get a unit into enemy territory as fast as you can to get those extra contagion points. You'll probably want to use the first 7 to summon an extra tree, after which summon plaguebearers to capture objectives.

Btw I don't know how receptive your group is to house rules but I've run four really fun path to glory leagues (and running another right now) and have figured out a set of rules that curbs the most eggregious cheese while still preserving that PtG feel.

As of right now, I own the GUO, 1 tree, 1 Lord of Plagues, 1 Lord of Blights, 1 Harbinger of Decay, 1 Rotbringer Sorcerer, 1 box of Nurglings and everything that comes with 6 start collecting boxes for Daemons of Nurgle.

Ah... Maybe pick up a box of pusgoyles for the LoA because having at least one will help a lot.

Now if you want to be really reckless you could show up with the GUO and no follower choices to start with an extra two glory, for a potential win a game earlier than others.

That would be hilarious XD, I do plan on picking up a lot more over the next few months this is my next big army so I'm going to go balls to the wall. I was talking to a buddy of mine today and he was cool enough to sell me an extra Lord of Afflictions he had, so now that I have my hands on one I might run the GUO with him and Plaguebearers or just Him and the GUO to save a point.

Finally started the tournament today, it was pushed off a few times but got my two games in. Summoning was banned as a house rule. I lost my first match to Wanderers on the map Cornered! Wasnt able to escape, my Opp got a Minor victory even though I was able to table them and kept the GUO up to almost 16 the whole time. The second match was Also Cornered but against Daughters of Khaine I won the major for escaping LOA killed a whole unit then died after.

I was thinking maybe taking 5 Putrid BlightKings and maybe Baleful Virulence or Reaping Strikes for the GUO.

Summoning being banned is for the best, I think. Do you get to pick additional followers/rewards or do you roll for them?

Well first off take the 12 option on the champion rewards to get two of them, then take oppressive stench (6) followed by inimical touch (lesser reward 3). Stench will make your GUO obscenely difficult to kill in melee since your enemy will be -1 to hit while also re-rolling 6s to hit (remember that re rolls happen before modifiers). Inimical touch, meanwhile, is the best damage boosting option, especially since it will affect his vomit as well as his melee.

Once you have those take 5 blightkings. Putrid discharge is nice to have near your heroes (and near enemies) while +1 to run & charge from their musician combos well with gnarlmaws letting them do both. Also the LoA will give them re-roll hits of 1 in addition to already buffing himself. Blightkings can't benefit from the GUOs command ability but the LoA is still a great target for it anyways.

Totally agree on GUOs command, I had it on LOA both games and he was eating whole units like a Champ. Will definitely take your advice on abilities. Question though, After the first Gnarlmaw gets set up after the terrain is it considered summoning to make additional Gnarlmaws with the contagion points.

Yes but its 0 reinforcement points so I imagine its OK. Are sylvaneth barred from bringing in additional wyldwoods?

Ok cool just making sure, I was getting a lot of mixed responses on it around other forums.

Played a few more games, played against KO lost my general to the shooting so I lost that map for Vendetta. next game I played against Ironjaw Orruks custom scenario, lost on objective it was close almost killed his mawcrusha for the minor but rounds ran out. and last was against wanderers again won a minor same custom game by killing the general.

For my next unit i was thinking about taking either some pusgolyes, more blightkings or one of the lords either blight or plagues.

Pusgoyles would work well but cost glory, I would go twice blessed champion again for Daemonic Armor and Blubbery Resilience--this will make it harder to kill the GUO in melee AND range. Remember that the biggest strength of your warband is an absurdly powerful champion. For future choices poxbringers are always nice (more spellcasting + more healing) and nurglings can be very useful for objective claiming because of their special deployment rule. It depends on how much more glory you need.

I ended up finding out they ruled that you had to roll for the 2 and 12 option but freely pick everything else, then you could freely pick what you got for your 2 picks for option 12 if the roll was successful, I was lucky enough to roll and make it the first time for oppressive stench and inimical touch, I don't know if I would get that lucky a second time haha. As far as winning I guess for this one we're doing you need at least 8 glory points by week 5 to enter into a huge mega battle at week 6 and out of that determines a winner.

Ah, that's the same style we use for our leagues. Great fun. At any rate, I'd still pick up re-roll saves or an extra 6+ resilience to help with durability. Pusgoyles if you have the extra glory, more LoA if you don't.

So after some push backs do to people going on vacation and scheduling, the final battle is happening tomorrow this is how my list looks now for the final unit I chose another LoA.
