Thanks Az, I think the cheaper russian kits are where I'll go to start with, not too many just 3 or 4 to get a feel for them. I also am looking at a printed wall and door set for ZM I still want to play it and this seems a cheaper option and looks good too it's in Aus if you're interested.

I just got back from a couple 2? 3? hours in the shed building a bunker-ish building with a small tower out of my Mantic Deadzone stuff that I never worked up enough interest to build until now. What's the ZM stuff?

ZM = Zone Mortalis it looks like a heavy card stock printed walls and doors that actually fit together to make a realistic looking scene to fight through, he says 2 kits would do a 6x4 board but one kit can do a good 4x4 which I think? is all you need to play it? please correct me if i'm wrong so I don't buy too little to use!

So I'm in a good place at the moment with painting, I managed to get more of the Reaver done which I may update later today after work and I'm steadily progressing through Nurgle wave 2! which only leaves unpainted 3 primarchs and a Warhound titan :-) easy peasy. and I also assembled stuff!

actually I will take some pics this arvo and update :-)

Automatically Appended Next Post:
A few pics, a question or two and ore pics

Reaver time, I washed all the metals darker by mixing poster acrylic black with an old pot of boltgun metal and adding water until it was sort of wash like then wiped excess off with my hands and a rag making sure it was darker underneath and where you wouldn't see much. Next I added different colours to vary the tones on different parts, dark blue where it's a bit oily and sepia to age it, a good coat of varnish followed as the parts need to withhold a fair amount of handling while I finish them.

Next up is some pretty cruddy shots of the Nurgle wave 2 stuff more tactical plague marines, 4 more spawn made this time from Gal Vorbak models, another Maulerfiend conversion and 2 rhino's

And lastly my Minotaur army build progress I took the plunge and cut off the pads to add on the FW ones and they look heaps better, I now have 20 tactical marines (and here's the question I alluded to) what do I give my Tactical Sarge's? I've armed one with a bolt pistol and a pointing hand and the other is just a marine with a bolter? should I actually give them anything different?

Oh and I built Hecaton Aikos from FW

Is 'Eavy Metal Calling?

UK

Honestly, with 8th edition only a few weeks out now and bringing a total overhaul of the game, it's hard to say. But in general you want to keep them cheap. Combi-weapons matching the squad's special is usually a safe bet, or maybe a power weapon if it syncs with the squads other weapons (ie. if the squad has flamers/meltas and thus will be getting in close. No point putting a power weapon on a Las/Plas squad ect). Failing that, just keeping them stock and spending the points on the Veteran Sergeant upgrade for the Ld buff is perfectly sensible too.

If you're going power weapon, Mauls are the best all rounders, giving you (at the moment) decent AP, wounding most infantry on 2s and giving you some light anti-vehicle capability. If you're going for a sword to kill other Marines, I think the conventional wisdom is that a Lightning Claw is mathematically better most of the time.

Thanks Para, at the moment everyone just has bolters as I like the ease of having them all the same and I will use my other more specialised units to have heavier weapons. so I should be o.k just having them with a bolt gun? sounds good to me i'll just paint his helmet red

Yeah, if you're just keeping the tacs to fill troop requirements and sit on objectives, bolters are the best bet.

I realised I hadn't started work or really done any focus on the actual engine room where the princeps is guiding this great machine! so I started him to see where I go from here? I better show you where i'm at so you can offer any ideas?

Firstly his cosy little nook of the imperium.

and the weapons were mentioned, here's where I am with them too! looking good when they are up against the body.

Good work all over, Nerdy.

Have you thought about a darker wash of some of the Orange recesses on your Nurgle things? To give them a bit more depth. Not everywhere, just some select bits.

Thanks guys, not much more to go really on the reaver, it's an interesting model with it being so large, I approached it as a lot of different smaller models when it came to detail and painting but now it's nearly done I need to look at it from a different perspective and see how it all fits cohesively as a whole entity with colours and weathering etc.

DrH do not stress mate, that's only the start of those Nurgle :-) there is indeed more washes to come, they get an Agrax wash and then I pick out the choice rusty parts again!

This is kind of a pointless post i'm sorry but I just need to let out a bit of the building excitement and anticipation in a way that won't get me fired at work Gits' Reaver Titan 'Deus Ex Machina' is in the final stages of completion!!! all that I have left to do is the weathering and highlights on the legs and weapons and to finish one knee scroll and add damage and finish the pilot chamber! then I'll snap some pics for you all to see her tomorrow!

Then the other exciting bit is I'm also nearly done wave 2 of Nurgle and I'm starting Konrad Curze next week too!~ so lets get me encouraged people!

I agree, the Minotaur's shoulder pads really make a HUGE difference! Can't wait to see you tackle their paint scheme.

Your work on the titan... is just flat out impressive. I think its brilliant the way you've painted and converted the gal vorbk marines too! Well done brother well done!
