Let me say that I can be a little narrative in my play...I'm also on a budget, so anything I can use I will...

So MANY YEARS ago, I bought a couple citadel paint sets that came with some Space Marines, that sat in a box for 20+years. I finally got into 40K, and dug them out. The problem was that they were so much shorter than even my guardsmen....so thinking about it, and needing some heavy hitting weapons (I had two with Missile Launchers), I decided that they would be squats (rules wise Tac squad marines)...I have a total of 11

Converting the Sgt into a (Lt/Cap), head and weapon swap (using a Goliath hammer and an Esher head)

Their paint job is going to be similar to my SM (purple base coat), but planning on distinguishing with gold weapons, red/bronze shoulder pad(s) and chest simble, etc...

Backstory...they're basically Slayers in armor.

What flourishes can you guys think of to add, either to backstory or paint?

I'd imagine they would have a huge bone to pick with Tyranids and may specialize at either gunning hordes down or doing some big game hunting.

Praying to get a game of 9th edition in before Summer.

Yup, agreed...nice thing is that my SM Chapter also has history with the nids...

Make sure to paint their "Mohawks" red. Maybe use Dwarven runes for squad symbols. Some of the older WHFB rule books had the dwarf alphabet.
