Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

This would be my second game with Custodes at 1000pts (the first was a trial game against a Tau battlesuit army to see how they handled), this is a quick BatRep + my first impressions of Custodes.

My list:
- Shield Captain on bike (Auric Aquilis, Superior Creation)
- 2x Custodian Guard (1xSS, 2xGS)
- Vertus Praetors (HB)
- Company Commander
- Lord Commissar
- 3xInfantry Squads

His list:
- 2x Archons
- 3x Raidors
- 3x Warriors
- Ravager
- Razorwing

Mission: Cleanse and Control

Roll off: I won and he failed to seize

First turn:
Me - (I gave my Warlord VotBG) Not much happened, most of my units moved forward and the bikes did 6W to the Raidor that housed his Archons.
Opponent - Again, not much. He brought down 1 of my bikes and took my Captain down to 4W. I used 3CP to charge his Razorwing with my Captain and did 4W.

Second turn:
Me - I killed 2 Raidors and did another 2 wounds to the Razorwing, I charged his Archon Warlord with my bikes but did nothing and lost a bike for my troubles. I got first blood, kill a unit with fly and I held Obj 5: 3VP
Opponent - He shot a lot of my units but only managed to bring my Captain down to 3W.

Third turn:
Me - I whiped a unit of raidors with a Guard squad and did 1W to the Ravager with my Captain in CC, in return I lost my last bike. I held Obj 2 for two turns and held Obj 2 for a single turn: 6VP
Opponent - My opponent finally brought my Warlord down and did some dmaage to my Guardsmen. He advanced out of his deployment, killed my Warlord (he had an objective for that on top of slay the Warlord), killed a unit with fly and killed a Character: 7VP

Fourth turn:
Me - I whiped another unit of Warriors and brought his Razorwing down to 1W. I had no one within 3" of a Custode, held Obj 5 for 2 turns and held Obj 1: 10VP
Opponent - He killed 2 Custodes from 2 separate units and did some more damage to my Guardsmen.

Fifth turn:
Me - This turn clinched it, I killed his Warlord and the last unit of Warriors. I killed his Warlord (I too had the kill enemy Warlord card), killed an enemy unit and got a free VP for scoring a VP: 16VP
Opponent: Literally nothing, we called it there.

Impressions on Custodes:
- Bikes are great for 4 reasons: 1st turn charges (although I failed mine), charging flyers, drowning things in weight of fire and being a distraction (thanks to them, my Guard walked up the board unscathed).
- Custodes Guard are surprisingly good! They were easily the stars of this game, being extremely tough and able to throw out a decent amount of damage makes them superb.
- Imperial Guard are a must for Custodes: the +5CP and orders (Move, Move, Move was especially helpful for capping objectives) make the Custodes list even better, without the Guard detachment I doubt I would have won.

So all in all, I am delighted and absolutely terrified with how tough Custodes are and I'm looking forward to playing them some more.

IG are not that great how you run them.

Bow down to Guilliman for he is our new God Emperor!

Martel - "Custodes are terrible in 8th. Good luck with them. They take all the problems of marines and multiply them."

"Lol, classic martel. 'I know it was strong enough to podium in the biggest tournament in the world but I refuse to acknowledge space marines are good because I can't win with them and it can't possibly be ME'."

DakkaDakka is really the place where you need anti-tank guns to kill basic dudes, because anything less isn't durable enough.

Could you explain that?

I think you missed that they're a CP battery.

IG is good as a cp battery but just taking squads of guardsmen is meh. Look the list of the winner from the recent Barnyard Brawl GT... his was packing some real heat.

This was only 1000pts, I didn't really have the room for heavy ordinance, plus I wanting to try out Custodes more than IG.

Even in 2,000 points I only run a minimum battalion of IG as a CP battery. It's a perfectly valid tactic and only about 180 points.

You just bring the thunder with the rest!

Lol okay that certainly makes a big difference.
