So I have an old carnifex that has a relatively small circle base. I also just purchased a carnifex from the deathstorm set that has a larger oval base. How would this work on the tabletop? Is it illegal for me to replace the smaller base with a larger oval one or does it really matter? Just thinking the charge distance would be a bit larger for one carnifex compared to the other.

Thanks for the feedback in advance!

The basic rule is to use the base size the current model is supplied with.

In friendly games people tend to not be bothered by using old base sizes. For tournaments contact the TO to ask.

There are no official rules for base sizes. Want to put your carnifex on a 150mm base ? Go ahead, its legal. If you go to a tournament ask the TO, he may say you need to use the base that came with the model, or use the current base size.

As mentioned, there's no rule for it. Old rules (at least for some edition of the game...) were "use the base the model was supplied with", which is a sensible approach but I'd say unless it involves a lot of work (rebasing an entire army, ie my Necrons all being on 25mm bases, or you put a lot of effort into the basing itself) then I'd say update to the current base size of the model.

I am planning to update my Necron armies bases eventually though... When I'm finished with my Minotaurs... So probably never >>;

As others have said, no rules atm;

The generally accepted way (good sportsmanship) is to use the base the model is supplied with - in the case of models that have different size bases (an older and newer version of the same model), it's fair game to mount all applicable models on the smallest base they ever came with.

Same size as smallest base provided during the models entire production history = ok
Smaller than the smallest base provided...history = bad
Larger bases = not a problem, as they generally work against you anyways

There is something to be said about a Tyranid Spore Mine who's base is half your deployment zone in size, but...

You know if you're basing for advantage or not.
