The new Carnodon Tank for Solar Auxilia and Militia!

A new vehicle support option for us mortal warriors. After doing some soul searching after the scrapping of the Rapier's for Solar, I feel this model is a healthy replacement for them. I like the idea of more for less as I find Solar Auxilia Battle Tank are overcosted unless you're using the Leman Russ Infernus and all it's Chooming glory. From what I have seen from some Warhammer news site this beauty is coming with Multi-lasers base with plenty of weapon upgrades for it's sponsons and main turret.

What do you guys think of this beauty?

I think I’d rather have a transport for my 20 man militia squads that isn’t an out of production super heavy.

It's a nice model but it looks too much like the Predator for my tastes. Solar Auxilia already has Leman Russ Annihilators though which is why it caught me off-guard. I'd rather have had something based off the Chimera chassis to go with the Not!Guard theme, but at least they'll look nice next to Dracosans.

Yeah. SA get a Predator tank. I hope we didn't lose Legion specific torsos and shoulder pads for this!

It's an odd choice. I'd rather see more based off the plastic kits.

I like it. And that paint job is pretty damn good. FW is so weirdly hit-and-miss with those lately.

They really do need a transport for Militia though that isn't the Gorgon. Land Raider variant maybe?!

Did you miss the Aurox? https://www.forgeworld.co.uk/en-GB/Aurox-Pattern-Armoured-Transport-2018

They mentioned the Rhino-chassis vehicles were a throwback to when the Imperial Army could take Rhinos and Land Raiders in Rogue Trader, so we may well see the latter. Survivors of the Dark Age can take them already of course, but I'd rather see a dedicated Militia variant not requiring it..

Really I mean more of a Spartan-equivalent, because your basic squads are 20-man.

Chimera's weren't "Invented" till post heresy, so it makes sense that nothing is based on that chassis.

Aurox is not anywhere close to what Militia need. They need a transport with a 20 man capacity since the basic squad size for them in 20. Something like a stripped down dracosan would do, or something else we haven’t seen yet. But the aurox is honestly kinda a joke for Militia at least. Only think worth putting in it might be a command squad, since even grenadiers can’t use it effectively cause giving them special weapons bumps them up to squad size 12.

Um legion Basilisks/Medusa’s are clearly chimera chassis’s.

I disagree entirely. Totally different style and layout to the Chimera-chassis kits.

Pretty sure it literally uses the plastic chimera/basilisk kit as a base for it, not that the chimera existing in 30k should help much. We Militia players still couldn’t fit our base squad inside it! Lol

It uses literally the absolute minimum hull parts. Just the interior track hull sections and the floor sections. The only parts that you see from the kit are the rear decking and tracks. Otherwise, it is vastly different in style. It may be a precursor to a Chimera hull, but it definitely doesn't look like one from outwards appearance. FW did a good job using an existing hull and modifying it beyond recognition with like four parts.

I love this tank and intend to buy a gakload for my Solar Auxila. A pity there are no 30k players near me.

Maybe I can use them as LRBTs in 40k also...

I’ll give you different style but the layout is comepletly the same. The only big changes to the look are stale of the armor plates, added an extended gun shield, and they put engine exhausts on the side. So yeah it looks different but it’s a chimera chassis, or whatever a chimera chassis was based on in M30

A tank chassis is a tank chassis. There isn't a lot of wiggle room, so the layout will be similar. All those "big changes" ostensibly make this barely identifiable as a Chimera. From a designer standpoint, my guess is that this was the easiest route vs reworking it entirely from a Rhino chassis.

My gripe is that it is named a Basilisk and not Earthshaker, since the former is the Chimera-based delivery system for the latter gun.

This is like saying the layout between the T-34 and the M1 Abrams is the same - you know, turreted main gun, exhausts still on the back, sloped armour... the only big changes are the state of the armour plates, added and extended turret bustle, and side armour skirts. So yeah it looks different but it's just a T-34 chassis, or whatever the M1 chassis was based on in 1944. *rolleyes*

Lol I don’t know if you are being intentionally misleading with you analogies or are just a bit dense, if anything this comparison is more like a Sherman and an Israeli Super Sherman. Same basic tank, just up armored/gunned and better tech in it.

Let’s be honest, the legion basilisk is an upgrade kit to the IG basilisk kit, which is a chimera chassis. Now unless you can find some piece of fluff that says “the legion basilisk is not based on the chimera chassis or some anscestor vehicle related to the chimera chassis” it’s a moot point. The damn think still has AV12/10/10 for Pete’s sake (despite the model looking much tougher). Side profile is almost identical. The model designers and rule designers were clearly taking cues from the IG basilisk/chimera.

Yeah, the Legion Basilisk looks to use the same chassis as the Chimera, but with different armour plating and presumably a Marine-grade powerplant.

It could well be a predessor to a Chimera, but honestly it looks far more like a variant built from the same chassis.

Anyway we are off topic, what we should really be discussing is what new 20 capacity transport FW should make for us!

I mean, I’ll take some of these new tanks as well, but I’d much prefer some transports for my Militia squads

The gorgon. But re-modelled with enclosed barbettes so that you can't see the gunners so there's no specific crew models, and the model updated to be easier to assemble.

I should have been more specific, a non-Superheavy transport for Militia such as the Draconis. Something smaller than th Gorgon that can transport our 20 man infantry squads. Hell I’d take a 40kd one of these:
