Designer's Commentary:

Warhammer Age of Sigmar – Battletome: Idoneth Deepkin, Designers’ Commentary

Q: Forgotten Nightmares states that ‘Missile weapons can only
be used to target an Idoneth Deepkin unit with this battle trait if it is the closest visible enemy unit.’ Can I ignore this restriction if the attacking unit has an ability that allows it to target a unit that is not visible?
A: No.

Q: If a
Hero uses the Cloud of Midnight in the enemy shooting phase and is the closest visible unit to an attacker, does this stop that attacker from shooting at any other Idoneth Deepkin units?
A: Yes.

Q: The rules say that Idoneth Deepkin armies have the ability to place two Etheric Vortexes. A Gloomtide Shipwreck is an Etheric Vortex that can be placed in two halves. Does this mean that
the total number of Shipwreck halves that may be placed by an Idoneth Deepkin player is 4?
A: No, the total number of Shipwreck halves that may be placed is 2. The rules allow the Idoneth Deepkin player to set up 2 Etheric Vortex terrain features; as noted on its warscroll, if a Gloomtide Shipwreck model is split up, each half of the model is 1 terrain feature, and therefore each half counts as 1 of the 2 terrain features you can set up.

Q: If an Ionrach Royal Council has more than one Tidecaster or Soulscryer, do they all need to be within 3" of the Akhelian King in order to use the Give Them No Respite command ability?
A: No. You can use the command ability as long as at least 1 Tidecaster and 1 Soulscryer is within 3" of the Akhelian King.

Q: Does the Ionrach’s Emissary of the Deep Places command trait apply after your general is slain?
A: Yes.

Q: Does the Akhelian Corps’ Pulsing Rhythm of the Drums ability allow me to re-roll one of the dice in a charge roll, or must I re-roll both?
A: You must re-roll both.

Q: The Dormant Energies ability on the Eidolon of Mathlann, Aspect of the Sea warscroll says you can re-roll a casting roll, and that if you don’t re-roll a casting roll, you can heal D3 wounds. Can you heal D3 wounds if you use a different ability or rule to re-roll the casting roll?
A: No.

Q: Can I add 1 to save rolls for the Akhelian Leviadon because of its Void Drum ability?
A: Not in Pitched Battles, where Monsters do not receive the cover save modifier (we instead reflected the effect of the Void Drum combined with the Leviadon’s thick shell by giving the model a very high save roll).

Personal take:
I feel like the Icon Bearer thing is a Good Move. Would have liked a bit more in-depth rules for the Icons, like the two different ones getting rules but that's fine.
I feel like the Namarti Reavers being 2-6 in a Mor'phann Namarti Corps kind of messes with Briomdar. I also feel like it would have been a good opportunity to make it a bit more in line with Ionrach and give the Namarti Corps access to an additional Soulrender for their Corps.
I feel like the change to the Void Drum for Leviadon is reasonable for the Leviadon itself but it needs to specify that it can affect the Allopex (a unit that already is struggling to get traction a bit--it's classed as a Monster so won't get the benefit) even in Matched Play.
I feel like they really should have addressed the way the Enclave specific spells work a bit better. I, personally, would have set it up so that Freezing Mists and the like replaced the Riptide spell.
I feel like with the Namarti Reaver change in Mor'phann Namarti Corps, Briomdar should have been errata'd to make it so that Reavers are always Battleline for Matched Play.

I'm dissapointed they didn't address More'Fan cheese, but then I didn't really expect it. Overall makes sense to me, icon clarification is good (I don't think there should be two since they look so similar to each other, as opposed to units where the options look totally different). Hopefully they will remove the monster keyword from allopexes in the future.

Some good clarifications and all that. Definitely helps keep the game fresh and clear of any of 'That Guy' trying to make a full uit of 30 Thralls with icons. I imagine plenty of people are regretting buying a ton of icons off of bits sites right about now.

The rest is pretty straightforward. Some of it I didn't realize needed clarification. The Cloud of Midnight clarification is a big buff and the clarification on the Gloomtide Shipwreck was needed. I just feel like this FAQ stopped plenty of arguments before they could really start, seeing as we haven't even gotten the eels and sharks to build and play with yet.

The Allopex being Monster is... unfortunate. They don't benefit from turn 1 cover and they don't benefit from Leviadon cover. BUT that also frees them up to go off and do their own thing. Your opponent still has to focus them down, because 8 wounds with a 4+ save is still bulkier than 10 thralls with a 5+ save. Keep in mind, Allopexes in units of 1 don't care about bravery at all, and can run along the flanks of an army and get behind formations of screening units a lot easier than eels can. I think the Allopex will still have a place, though I wouldn't mind seeing it reduced by about 10-15 points in cost.

Im glad, but also sitll worried that they did not address that Deep kin can passively get you down to a -6 bravery with out even needing to kill a model.

To many unpainted models to count.

What can be done and what is actually effective are different. There's enough battleshock ignore-stuff out there that running such an army isn't going to be effective overall. Nurgle can do similar but it hasn't been a problem. Hell, Nurgle can stick -2 to hit re-roll 6's to hit on enemies easily but it isn't worth sacrificing more well-rounded benefits.

Nurgle can get up to -5 to hit (-7 shooting) without counting the potential stacking of favored poxes. Witherstave makes all enemies within 12" re roll 6s to hit.

Plaguebearers, lord of blights, glottkin, bloab, favored poxes. But this has gotten off topic.
