What down sides would there be to me doing this:

Battalion <Chaos><Daemons><Nurgle>
HQ: Epidemius
HQ: Poxbringer
Troop: Nurglings
Troop: Nurglings
Troop: Nurglings
Heavy: Obliterators
Heavy: Obliterators

All units above share 3 faction keywords.

I ask because I can't fit 3 detachments into my list and I want to bring some Obliterators. My other detachment is a Death Guard Battalion and I don't want to lose IA on my infantry there so need to keep that <Death Guard> only.

Would the inclusion of Oblits have any impact on the Nurgle Daemons and vice versa? The bulk of my army is DG so I want my relics and stratagems going there really.

You would lose access to Chaos Daemons stratagems and your HQ's would not get Nurgle's demonic locus. If you're fine with that then you're good to go.

If you can help it, mix the Death Guard detachment (use the <Nurgle> faction keyword). Then keep a clean CSM or Daemon detachment, for the chapter tactics.

Mostly because Alpha legion in CSM and the Nurgle Loci are both excellent chapter tactics that clean/complete detachments can enjoy, whereas the Death Guard chapter tactics largely suck (18" rapid fire? yeah w/e).

Thanks for the advice. A quick question - if I put the Oblits in the DG detachment (losing the chapter tactics) then can I still use Death Guard stratagems?

No. Doing so would cost you both your Legion Trait for the Oblits and Inexorable Advance for your DG, as well as losing access to both sets of Stratagems.
