What is the difference between the Imperial Knight kits. From my research it appears all knights are the BASE Errant Kit. The Warden adds another sprue which gives you ALL the guns. Is this true? What is the difference in the actual box of the Warden vs the Crusader? Is it the same just marketed different by GW due to the points/rules or what? Does the Warden Kit come with both options for top mounts (missiles and AA gun)? Does the Crusader Kit have top mounts?

Also, which weapons are Ambidextrous? I plan to fully magnatize and want to be able to go double CC, CC and gun, or double guns (like Thermal and Gattling).

there are 2 kits. the Errant / Paladin & the more expensive Warden / Crusader / Gallant. The 2nd kit is the same as the first but with an additional sprue which gives you the fist, multi-barrelled gun, AA guns & missile pods. from the GW website, it looks like all the arm weapons are ambidextrous apart from the fist:

For some reason GW likes having each option that a kit can make as a separate item on their website. Usually they say what else the kit can make at the end of the description but not on the knights for some reason.

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

The Warden kit is the base kit, there are two or three sprues to the whole core model. The Errant is the upgraded kit where they added an additional sprue containing the chaingun, the fist, the meltagun and the top mount weapons.

As to which is ambidextrous, it's easier to say what isn't - The Fist. The fist also has its own lower arm piece.

In order to get the explanation of the construction is to talk about magnetization of the kit itself.

There are three, possibly four, shoulder joints in the full kit. the kit has a few articulation points - the shoulder itself is an outward angle swing. At the bottom of the shoulder piece is a retaining ring that the arms fit onto, which is a lateral rotation joint. Below that is the elbow joint which is part of the arm that holds the weapon.

The easiest point to cut down and magnetize the knight's arm mounts for swapping options is to cut the retaining ring off the shoulder and turn the rotation point into the mount. N52 5x2mm magnets work for holding these in place, even the resin ones if you acquire Forgeworld knights. Forgeworld knights need an additional modification if you want to swap weapons.

The Gatling cannon has its own mount from the rotator down, as does the fist. The chainsaw also has its own mount. The Battle Cannon and Thermal Cannon, however, share the same core arm section. The fuel tanks or ammo box fit onto the common part, and the shield outward is separate for the mounts. It takes a little work to magnetize the two weapon options, but it's not impossible, but it explains the challenge if you try and go for Battle/Thermal loadout.

The heavy stubber and meltagun options have their own mounts entirely, and if you trim and work carefully you can use 3x2mm magnets to switch the two in place. The Autocannons are on their own, the missile pod is two faces on the same core box. You can make the top weapons swappable with a 5x2mm magnet, fits nicely to the designs and gives a solid grip.

Forgeworld Knights have three additional weapons. They have their own weapon that goes on the stubber/melta hardpoint that needs a hanger clip of its own. They have their own melee weapon, and Ranged weapon, which again will re-use the lower arm joints of the gun and chainsaw respectively.

Now, I've magnetized my FW knight's arms so I can switch loadouts for a standard pattern if I want. What I did was magnetize the vertical angle elbow joint and fit magnets on the inside of the weapons. There's two pistons on the gun arm that will be annoying for this, but with pins you can have them set up to disconnect and then you can slip them into place on the weapon of choice.

I can provide a few images if you want.

I think you have this backward... isnt the Warden kit the upgrade, and the Errant the base?

Otherwise fantastic info, thanks for the magnet sizes as well. That was my next step of research. I am going to hold off on FW knights for now. Just want to get a regular one first.
So all weapons except the Thunder fist are Ambidextrous good to know. And It would not be possible to have a Battling cannon and thermal cannon on the same knight because they share an arm piece? So I would be looking at Thermal and Avenger Gattling cannon for example. Also, does the upgrade sprue have all the top monts missiles and AA guns?

If you would be willing to provide pics of the magnets and stuff that would be great!

Update on this: The new Knight kits for the Castellan and Valient, do they just add the weapon sprue on the base Knight Chassis?

No, completely new kits.

They both come with this sprue twice:

The Castellan comes with this one:

And the Valiant with this one:

Because the Errant/Paladin kit is old stock. They produced two different box variants for Christmas the year it released, then a year on we got the Warden kit and the Errant/Paladin was called back to be Direct Only while further kits got produced as Wardens instead.

Hmmm...does anyone know if you manage to pickup the guns/bits if they are compatible with the older knight models? Basically if I buy a Harpoon or Volcano lance bit can i just magnatize it and throw it on a crusader and play it as a Castellan or whatever?
