Hello all, I've been browsing the site for years, but the relaunch of Tianicus actually has me positing at last!

I'm trying to track down the original rules for Adepus Titanicus, as well as the additional rules for Reavers and Warhounds, Cards etc.

Did anyone online keep the game going the same way other games like BloodBowl did? I'd appreciate any help in finding it all.

Thanks.

There are quite a few folks who keep Epic 40K alive, but I'm not aware of any who do the same for the original titan vs titan game.

Thanks for the reply.

I've been looking around online - Are the core rules from Adeptus Titanicus the same as in Codex Titanicus and in Titan legions?

Or is each a seprate entity?

Thanks.

Codex Titanicus is the 1st edition epic ruleset - so a hit location table that uses the special up/down/left/right dice for the titans, weapons defined as attack dice, roll to hit, and save mod.
Adeptus Titanicus is a later ruleset with firepower, accuracy, RoF, and strength.

The original titanicus had all kinds of special rules for weighing down your titan with extra guns and shields, for pilots ejecting and gaining new skills, and so on. It's online on scribd (google for 1988 adeptus titanicus)

A.T., you've got a bit confused there;

Adeptus Titanicus is the original epic-scale game, released in 1988. This had rules for Warlord titans. White Dwarf articles added rules for Reaver and Warhound titans, a more detailed damage system, rules for vehicles and infantry, and for Eldar titans. Space Marine followed soon after, collecting and tidying up the rules for Space Marines vehicles and infantry. Codex Titanicus was a supplement book for these games. It included rules for Reaver and Warhound titans, advanced damage and construction rules, rules for Eldar and Ork titans, vehicles and infantry (Phantom and Warlock titans, Falcon Grav-tanks and Dire Avenger and Swooping Hawk infantry stands, although the miniatures would go on to become Guardians once the Eldar background was revised, and Gargants and Great Gargants, Ork Boyz and Battlewagons). There were also rules for a selection of support weapons and other vehicles for Space Marines - thud guns, mole mortars, predators, vindicators, termites, moles, drop pods and the Thunderbolt landing craft. IIRC there were also a set of campaign rules for titans, too.

White Dwarf introduced rules for Imperial and Eldar Knights (Andy Chambers' first work for GW), and added army lists for Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Squats, Orks and Chaos. Eldar were conspicuous by their absence.

Then in 1991, 2nd edition Space Marine was released. The box set contained Space Marines, Orks, Eldar and a Warlord titan, and army lists were available for the Imperium, Orks, Squats, Eldar and Chaos, with Tyranids available later. Titan Legions was released in 1994 which added the Imperator titan and Mega-gargant. It brought the focus back to titans, but not to the extent of 1st edition Adeptus Titanicus. It was possible to create an entire army of Imperial titans, but for every other faction, titans were support units for the infantry and armour formations.

Epic 40,000 was released in 1997, and by the time it was cancelled, the miniatures range covered the Imperium, Orks, Eldar and Tyranids, with Chaos released shortly before the game was cancelled.

Adeptus Titanicus II was the name of a series of articles published in one of the supporting magazines ([IIRC, the I]Epic 40,000 magazine[/I]). This was an expanded set of rules to allow more detailed titan-only combats to be played out. Rules were published for Imperial, Ork, Eldar and Chaos titans, although there were some revisions along the way which were never properly applied to previously-published material. The game is playable and fun, but needs tweaked to get rid of inconsistencies.

Adeptus Titanicus doesn't use the up/down and left/right location dice (special dice like this only appeared in 2nd edition Space Marine, and then spread to Warhammer in its 4th edition and 40k's 2nd edition). It uses a simple die roll to determine if a successful shot hits the weapns (subdivided into left/right carapace and left/right arm), the legs or the torso (subdivided into the head, the void shield generators or the reactor). Further rolls determined if a hit merely caused superficial damage (making future hits more likely to be fatal), critical damage or catastrophic damage (e.g. MIU feedback fries the crew's brains; the reactor overloads and explodes; a leg is severed and the titan falls down).

1st edition Adeptus Titanicus is perfectly playable. I ran demos of it at a couple of wargames shows in Scotland last year. Complete with six original titans and the original expanded polystyrene buildings.

Which is one major change in tactics I've noticed in the new game. In AT '88, titans could hide completely behind buildings, and thus were immune to all fire except being caught in the radius of a blast. Looking at the photos of AT '18, none of the buildings seem to be big enough to totally obscure a Warlord.

Adeptus titanicus was the title on both the 1st and 3rd edition rulesets - typically if you search for it you'll get the later 3rd edition stuff.

Codex Titanicus was the name given to the spin-off ruleset from epic space marine (with the direction dice, etc)... at least the version I was looking at. While I do have the original epic and bits of the 1st ed titanicus rules most of my other references were scans collected years ago and may have been mis-labled.

The first book titled Codex Titanicus was a supplement for 1st edition Adeptus Titanicus/Space Marine. This book has a red Warlord titan on the front and says "Codex Titanicus" at the top.

It was also used as the title of one of the books in the 2nd edition Titan Legions boxed game from 1994 - the "bestiary" book, IIRC, which gave you all the unit stats and background. This book has a yellow Mega-gargant at the top and says "Titan Legions" at the top and "Codex Titanicus" at the bottom.

Thanks so much for all this info - With all the different versions its been a bit hard to work out exactly what to target.

Looks like I'll hunt down the first version of Codex Titanicus. I really want the experience ofbuilding some Titan forces, but the size and cost of the new version is a little daunting.

Thanks again.

As far as i can find all the information for the new AT18 suggest that it is being designed with the original AT88 rules as a base with changes made to streamline the game.
As it is a bit bigger (suggested to be more inline with 8mm exact) the buildings being designed for the game at the base level are not big enough to prevent los but are completely modular allowing you to build los blocking buildings easily but not cheaply with the GW AT18 official. 6mm to 10mm buildings are going to be easier and cheaper to buy 3rd party even for those of us wanting the new AT18 buildings alongside them.
