OK, it's been a while since I did one of these, hopefully I remember how.

I've literally got a shed full of projects in various stages of completion and I'm going to try and get some serious progress made on them this summer. Starting with one of the dinosaur kits I intend to convert into a squiggoth.

A few of my other projects. Probably going to end up as a burna bomma, a couple of big trakks, a trukk, a warboss on bike and a kustom mega kannon.

Done the big zzappas. Unfortunately can't find my glyph plates, so having to make them all by hand, which will be tedious.

These are some awesome scratch builds with great attention to detail! I particularly am impressed with the sculpting around the face of the Squiggoth. I look forward to seeing more progress, particularly in turning the Gee Bee into something Orky.

Bit of progress on the head. Added a further layer of armour around the collar, replaced a cable which snapped during construction with a plastic one which should be sturdier, beefed the front teeth out a little with some putty.

This is really amazing work. The additional plates and sculpting work really well. Best of luck with the rest of the build.

That gargantuan squiggoth is looking great! It looks really good the way you built those armor sections, and the howdah looks like a sweet fortress. Keep us posted, I think we're all looking forward to your progress on this. I wouldn't worry about the twin-linked big shoota;s size, but maybe show us a pic with a different big shoota next to it for comparison? I think the ejection ports look fine too, but if it's bothering you, maybe try making the top section stick out farther than the rest of the pieces, and see if you like that look better?

Had a good weekend of work on the beast. I basically just need to finish texturing all the armour and do a couple more crew and then it will be ready.
[Thumb - Squiggoth 08.png]
Slightly modified the left big zzappa after finding the perfect barrel tip.

[Thumb - Squiggoth 09.png]
Pencil guide-lines and glue make the plasticard really messy. Don't know how other people keep theirs looking clean. Swapped the TL big shoota for some official ones.

I realised that there was no firing mechanism for the big zzappas, so I added a runt with some levers

This guy is going to look amazing on the table! It was clever having the gretchin pulling a lever to fire. I'm impressed with the amount of detail you've put into the armor plates, backpacks, etc. If you like doing that kind of stuff for terrain too, you may want to check out the League of Extraordinary Riveters terrain competitions. Once again, beautiful work.

I want to add a couple of grots and a bit of stowage and there will probably be spots where I decide to fill in some gaps or add an extra rivet or something, but the build is basically done now.

Finished the build and got it primed. Crew are on sprue for painting so can't be fitted until they are finished.

This is fantastic. I'm particularly impressed with the embossed rivets. That is not a technique that I have seen used before. All in all looking great and I will be looking forward to seeing it fully painted up.

Weather is no good for working outdoors, so I've been plotting how to proceed with my next project; a big trakk based around the running gear of a St. Chamond tank. I'm planning to do a couple of different turrets: supa-skorcha, flakka-gunz and either a supa kannon or big lobba.

Also, here's an old design for grot tank I will get round to soon.

Refining the form of the big trakk. I want to get an 'old school' look with the shingle roof and round turret, but keep the aesthetic close enough to the modern ork range that it isn't totally out-of-place. The cabin vaguely resembles the FW battlefortress and suggests the multi-turret design of some of the Epic ork tanks. Still not sure about how to do the supa-skorcha; it will probably be a question of what I find in the bits box.

Made a start on actually building the big trakk. Front cab is just plastruct square section, turret is a fuel tank from an Apollo spacecraft, engine is plasticard and sprue plus some gubbins from the Apollo kit.

Also made some progress on a couple of other pieces. A wartrakk skorcha made from a warbiker rescued from a car boot sale and a deff dread which is going to have an open cockpit.

Those are some cool looking projects with some excellent starts. I particularly like how the wartrakk skorcha is coming along. For the big trakk, what is the scale next to an ork boy? It looked much bigger in your draft than it does in the picture of the model itself.

It's roughly the same size as a battlewagon, so quite a bit smaller than the battlefortress its detail suggest. There is barely enough room in the cab for a driver. I will try and get pics of it next to some orks later, but at the moment my workbench is occupied with painting.

Started actually painting the squiggoth. Getting used to the airbrush after 9 months without using it, but I think the results are OK so far. Basically just done the teeth, tusks and horn plus slapped some colour on the skin to check that the scheme I had in mind looks OK. Going to hand-detail the tusks and horn, then give everything a good coat of gloss varnish, mask it all up and move on to the inner mouth.

Thanks for the size comparison. It is much smaller than I thought. I am really excited to see what you do with that build.

Also, I love the paint job on that battlewagon. Really great looking stuff!

Love the shape of the big trakk so far, definitely captures the old school battlefortress feeling. Keen to see where you go with this!

More work on the big trakk.

Edit: also got some more paint on the squiggoth and added a pilot with a squigar and grot with a lighter to the dread.
[Thumb - Big Trakk 02.png]

[Thumb - Big Trakk 03.png]
The driver needed some serious cutting, sculpting and filing to cram him into the cab.

[Thumb - Squiggoth 33.png]
Decided to make him a bit more pink than planned, since green wasn't working out. Direct sunlight isn't ideal for this kind of photography; I'll try and get some better shots soon.

[Thumb - Dread 02.png]
The pilot for this thing needed a lot of work to make him fit too and the grot has been an absolute nightmare to make and fit.

More progress on the BT. Unfortunately had to glue the engine shelter onto the engine which will complicate painting them, but it kept falling apart as I was trying to assemble it. Not sure whether to glue the combination onto the main hull... leaving it off for now until I have a better sense of what else it might be blocking access to on the final build.

The ridge tiles on the roof were difficult; I had to melt them with a hot air gun and then force them into place before they cooled down again. I'm happy with the end result though.

The build has developed a kind of cartoonish look, even by 40k standards. I kind of like it, but I'm a little concerned that the tracks might not blend in with the rest of it.

I think the flywheel at the back of the engine needs a bit more greebling, but I'm not sure what to do with it.

The stowage area is only really visible with the engine section off.

Great job! I'm particularly Liking the oversized heat guard, the 'sticking plaster' patch on the turret, and the whole stowage/engine area

That big trakk looks like a very nice blend of the old style ork vehicles from the 90s and the new modern forge world stuff.
