Since few B.B. ‘coaches’ bring star players to tournaments, there isn’t much tactical advice online regarding specific ones, i.e. are they worth it. Many tournaments allow 1.1k points, so it’s possible to include one of the cheaper-to-middle range ones — just wondering if any dwarf players out there might give me some advice with Grim Ironjaw and the dwarf team. I haven’t always had the most success with slayers (I usually field one or none), but Grim seems like he could really do something with dauntless, multiple block, frenzy, and a base strength of 4. The problem I’ve had fielding dwarves is that my relative lack of experience has made it more difficult for me to cash in on this team’s strengths, so I am occasionally surprised and left reeling by a lucky casualty (despite thick skull, lots of AV 8 on the team, and I’m used to playing Orcs so I don’t always expect my players to go down), and often faster teams rapidly outscore me. Grim sounds like he could handle more than his points cost worth of opponents, however, given that skill combination. On the downside: There’s the problem of AV8 on a guy worth 220k points, and there’s the problem of being unable to include either one blocker or one runner bc of his points value (so, in 1.1k points, the team would have to be Grim, 1x Blocker, 2x Runner, 7x Blocker/ Longbeard, 3x reroll; or Grim, 2x Blocker, 1x Runner, 7x Blocker/ Longbeard, 3x Reroll).

So, I’m wondering if anybody can give me advice: A) is Grim worth it at 220k in a 1.1k team? And B) what’s the best way to use him?

I am a Dark Elf player but having played BB for almost thirty years should be enough experience to give you good advice with your grumpy stunties. Actually Dark Elves and Dwarfs have a few things in common. Both teams need to learn how to defend properly because there are opponents out there which can move really fast. So you have to use a deep defence. Players acting as Safeties should have Tackle as a skill to counter Dodge.
Now to your Troll Slayers. These guys are your best players on the team. Why? Well, they have Frenzy my favoured skill in the game. I play very defensively with my Dark Elves and my Witch Elves are assigned to push unwary opponents off the pitch. In other words you try to play an attrition game where you slowly outnumber ypur opponent.
I almost never play with Star Players and I am not familiar with the brand new edition. If you like Grim, take him.

A discussion about Dwarves and Grim. Dwarves fight similar to Orcs, but rely more on Guard to do so. Normally I would take max 1 runner cause they're soft like Slayers and don't got block. Slayers on the other hand are usually great choice, I always take 2. Same with Blitzers, always 2. The deathroller is very unstable so this should be taken as a fun choice when you are aware of how fatal Secret Weapon can be against someone like Skaven. Grim is a good star player. You get ST4 and Block. Can even handle the ball with AG3. I've bought him many times as Inducement. His weakness is he's not much different from normal Slayers except the +1ST. And other Slayers tend to level up with skills like Mighty Blow, tackle, dodge and guard. Mostly your runner or blitzer will handle the ball so his AG3 is not always relevant.
