I am making a Luna Wolves army and I am trying to figure out where they get their name scheme from, for example. The Ultra Smurfs and Big Papa smurf, their names originate from the Roman times and Rome etc. I am trying to figure out where on Terra (earth) they are named after.

It's not known for certain. Apocryphal sources say it's because the Emperor used original Terran XVI Legion to pacify Luna, in the "first" action of the Great Crusade proper.

They almost seem like a combination of Greek, Egyptian and European with a mix of Roman here and there too. Very odd naming scheme.. Ho hum..

He's talking about individual Luna Wolves legionnaires' names, like Garviel Loken, Tybarr Malt, etc.

There's a bit of medieval Italian in there, too. Torgaddon looks alot like an evolution of Torchitario to my eyes. Like wise Tybarr Malt evokes (Ty/Ti)baldo of Malta to me. But maybe I've played too many crusader kings games in Italy lol.

You could just go with ancient Egypt (Horus). But the 1k Sons use a lot of that.

Maybe Zorastrian names (Abaddon)?

right behind you

I always thought it was a mashup of all countries within Europe and middle east/ north Africa, with garviel, Tybalt and malogurst not sounding out of place in an Arthurian legend (galahar could be quite a good name) with horus and abaddon coming from ancient egypt and zorastrian religions.

1650 points approx. of deathwatch
2500 points aprox. of alpha legion and thousand sons
50 power admech
60 power salamanders
70 power thousand sons

could also go with mythical god and deamon names.

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

Cthonia is a mining world and had hive gangs so you could gleam inspiration from that. You could call them the 'shovels' or the 'pneumatic drills' lol

It's been noted that the general theme of the Luna wolves seems to be "barbarian raider" trope. So Vandas, Gorhs, Huns sort of thing. Not sure if the character names are reflective of that but it may be a good source of inspiration.
HH book 1 states the initial recruitment pool of the XVIth Legion was believed to made up of members of the 'hunter clans' of both the Jutrigan Bowl and Samsatian sub-plate slums of Terra. Both locations are not well specified however but we can assume the latter is probably still the Iranian plataue and Eurasian stepps 40k years later.

Abaddon is Hebrew (it means 'the destroyer'). It has absolutely nothing to do with Zoroastrianism. You're thinking of Ahriman.

A little bit of righteous anger now and then is good, actually. Don't trust a person who never gets angry.

Hmmm thanks alot guys! I am getting a new Mournival being made by DoI due to I don't have the mentality to paint minis anymore :c (depression sucks) And I was wondering if you guys have suggestions to any names that would suit. Because I am struggling to make names that would suit the miniatures I am getting commissioned o:. I just need to keep working on the fluff for Luna Wolves so I can introduce them in 40k universe and also have them for 30k too. I have looked up Hebrew and Zoroastrianism names and a few egyptian still at a loss xDD

I does. It so, so does.

Do whatever it takes to remind yourself that joy exists. So if throwing yourself into a 40k research/naming project does that for you, I encourage you to keep at it (though I'm sorry I can't help with the subject matter).

Staying engaged with a hobby is a great way to fight back. Remember too that the only way you lose that fight is to give up.

Thank you Kindly Greywing. I think I have a few names down I'll have to sort them out to what role their names will play. AKA Chapter Master/Praetor. Chaplain, Librarian, Captain and another Captain etc. I'll give some examples soon
