Hey guys this is a PLOG about my new craftworld Eldar (Aeldari?) army. Ive not collected an army for about 5 years and havent really done anything related to the hobby in about the same time scale, i did paint up a bit of bretonnian stuff recently as a practice but i put my money forward and bought myself the "Start collecting" craftworlds box set from triple helix for quite a decent price consiering how much the models cost individually. The intention is to move towards a relatively vanilla balanced force just to get myself back into painting and hopefully playing some games as well, i have a bit of a thing about painting my models though and hate to play games without my models fully painted. This can be detrimental to me as i do sometimes rush the project im working on and get them to a tabletop standard quickly but thats something i can work on.

Anyways! here are a few pictures of the first completed unit, the wraithblades! I went down the path of Biel tan in terms of colour scheme originally and i do quite like the white helmets etc but fancied doing something slightly different to the standard. Fluff wise im saying going along the lines of the helmets were repainted black to mark the mourning of the death of Biel tan as a whole craftworld.

So i have spent around a week and a half painting these guys up and have gone for the quite stark edge highlights but i do think there is alot of room for improvement. Ive been watching tutorial vids and am looking to brush up a bit (Buddum tush) in regards to highlighting especially. I will add a bit of backstory later on but i just wanted to get the pictures of these guys out there and get a bit of feedback on how things could be improved etc.

Cheers chaps

Rogerio.

You get an automatic click from me just for it being Biel-Tan, and I'm glad I did - those are some nice looking models.

The black heads works quite well. I find Biel-Tan is quite a good faction to go with if you want to vary your scheme anyway, given that which out of the green and white is used as the primary colour can vary from unit to unit and still be clearly from the same faction, and you can quite easily get a fair bit of black in there too without straying too far.

If I was going to suggest improvements, I think the swords could use a little more to make them pop. A really stark edge highlight would do a reasonable job of that without being too much extra work

Nifty! i've always liked that green, and i think the edge highlights came out well.

I like the basing as well, it fits the overall scheme

realism is a lie

Cheers for the feedback guys I will try my best to add a bit more detail and add a more prominent edge highlights to wraithbone weaponry. I have been busy and have already begun on a new unit acquired from ebay. As a side note ebay is waaaaay more pricey for 40k than it was about 5 years ago!

Amy way here's the next unit on the paint desk obviously a WIP as they've not even been fully basecoated yet!

A unit of my favorite aspect shrine the Dire Avengers, these will form the core of the army with a little purchase I made ....

One thing at a time though as I still also have the farseer, wraith lord and war walker unassembled. Thanks for checking out my log and hopefully will have some progress to share soon

Quick update , I've been working on the colour scheme of the avengers and have decided to go with this..

The colour scheme of my army is obviously green bring the primary with the secondary colour of black and tertiary yellow. I think it looks cool but I'd be interested to see what others think. Obviously the are nowhere near fully painted yet and are very much a WIP

Digging the yellow. It certainly pops.

Cheers dude I was a bit unsure at first myself but I think it works well. I've discovered seraphim sepia wash now also which makes the yellow and bone colours really stand out which will make my highlights much easier and much more natural looking than washing with dark tone.

I've also been playing around with army lists and have gone with something built around the start collecting box models it looks roughly like this for 1k

Farseer on foot

10 guardians with shuricannon

10 avengers

6 scouts

2 war walkers with shuricannon

Wraith lord

5 wraith blades in wave serpent

That would take me to 1k ish so I have ordered a wave serpent!

I will hopefully be finishing the avengers soon but the edge highlighting will take some time. I'm thinking of going slightly more minimal with it and I am already thinking of repainting the wraith blades weapons.

Nice. I wasn't sure about the yellow at first, I thought it was distracting me from the rest of the model. But it's grown on me somewhat and if it gets shaded down a touch I think it can work nicely, especially once you make the rest of the model pop a bit more with the highlighting.

It took me longer than it should have done to realise that they were the old guardian-plus-metal-head Avengers and not the current ones! It's always cool to see older Eldar models still out there.

Cheers mate yeah I'll will get pictures on at some point they are almost there and the yellow is far more toned down after a wash!

On the older model thing...I bought them from eBay and didn't even know there were new ones!! Damn it man I want new ones now haha.

Ok so managed to finish my test avenger in pretty happy with it I think my painting is improving a little after 5 years not touching a brush but still have so far to go. I think on the tabletop the unit will look decent buy obviously under close scrutiny it's hardly golden demon!

Let me know what you think!

Hi guys I've been busy and have managed to finish my first 5 man (and woman) Dire avenger unit! It's taken a bit of time but I'm happy with the result. Here are a few pictures for you all.

And a group shot.

So that takes the model count up to 10 so far, I think next I want to finish the other 5 avengers so that they are out of the war but I am really in the mood to paint something different after reading "scythes of the emperor" I very much want to start my marines but I think a little bit more work on my eldar will probably be the more sensible approach but we shall see!

Cheers guys I've now continued with the second half of the dire avenger collective.

I have tried to slow down the edge highlights for the second half of the force and further water down my paints to get a smoother effect. I have also changed my painting technique in terms of undercoat. I was using the dark green gw spray then using army painter green skin as a layer and then applied Biel tann wash over the top which has given my units a very dark base colour. Now I've moved onto using army painter greenskin spray then applying a wash afterwards. This will save time and I like the lighter tone too!

Hopefully get the rest of the avengers painted and then it's into either the wraithlord or serpent!

Ok so I have been busy painting my dire avengers and also a ride for them in the form of a wave serpent. In my final list at 1750 points I've included 2 serpents to carry 2 squads of avenger's. Anyways here's the pics!
