History, particularly ancient Roman & Byzantine, by Thersites
History's Empire, containing a wealth of lectures and documentaries on all manner of historical subjects. Kenneth Harl's are particularly good (e.g. to recognize voice), though the lecturers aren't attributed. It seems the channel is all about scraping together as many history videos and audios from all around, and uploading them as fast as possible, and it seems some kind of dealings with owners of some videos has at least taken place. More importantly than credit given and legalities, however, is the concentration of good stuff to watch and listen to!
Anyone has got natural science channels to recommend?
As to 40k, this video on humanity in that grimdark setting by Luetin is good. His channel is a good source for 40k material to listen to.

Alex steele is a blacksmithing channel and suprising intresting.
He makes some great stuff and is not what you'd expect. Not a bearded old guy but alot younger with alot of energy for thr camera.
His work is very good too.
Tools, blades, swords, knives, and more.

This is currently my favourite channel - a DM advice channel by Matt Colville. Probably the most popular one on the internet, so I'm sure lots of people here are aware of it. I often put this on while painting.

I listen to music, obviously, but video seems like it would be an impossible distracting backgrounder.
On the contrary, only listening to music (I do that, too) or nothing at all would be boring for many. Got more than enough focus to both paint or sculpt and learn things at the same time. If you cut away the learning half, it's not stimulating enough. Gets stale without it.

Scottish guy (I think) who breaks down dodgy electronic / industrial things, explaining how they work, how they could be improved, and will sometimes have a beer or two and then zap himself with something in the process.
It's the best combination of informative and entertaining. I think it's the only youtube channel I've actually found that I'm willing to subscribe to.

I usually pop in movies or TV shows that I've already seen many times over (and the longer they are, the better), stuff like The Godfather, Twin Peaks, Sergio Leone westerns, etc. Having seen them many times, the audio is all I need at that point to fill my mind.
Specifically stuff from YouTube? I'd pull up some old time radio shows like Dragnet, Richard Diamond, Johnny Dollar, etc. Not the comedies, though, or I'd waste too much time laughing at Jack Benny and get nothing done.

I reject absolutely revenge, aggression, and retaliation. The foundation of such a method... is love. I love you Sheriff Truman." - Twin Peaks

I listen to music basically constantly while I'm working. I can listen to audiobooks or podcasts (usually Tim Ferris) too and manage to focus on work and the audio at the same time. I feel like I can focus better if I've got two things going on at once, because that helps keep other random thoughts from popping up into my head. Otherwise I'll start thinking about what I'm going to do tonight, a book I might have been reading, minmaxing whatever game I've been playing lately, hiking, stuff I need to get done, cooking, etc. And thinking my own thoughts is actually more distracting for work than listening to someone else's for some reason.
I can do video in the background, but I can't actually watch it and work at the same time.
EDIT: Links now! Here are a bunch of channels I like to watch/listen to when doing gaming/homework/painting/reading/etc.
Forgotten Weapons - this channel examines firearms throughout history, discussed in historical context, their engineering examined, and shot if possible. Everything from wheellocks to gold damascened presentation pistols to heavy machineguns and experimental trials guns from all over the world.
NewRetroWave - amazing Synth music, great for painting, gaming, etc.
Science and Futurism with Isaac Arthur - a really cool channel that explore things like what would the first human off world colony look like, how would you actually explore other solar systems, what space colonies would likely look like and how theyll be governed, digital immortality and Fermi Paradox questions.
TheCGBros - over a thousand CG animated & VFX short films, hundreds more CG related vids.
C&Rsenal - extremely in depth historical research on firearms, currently all WW1 stuff, everything from Lebels and Carcanos and G98's to Winchester 95's and Lewis Guns. Hour long videos are the norm. Done by a husband/wife team, cannot recomment this channel enough.
The Great War - nearing its end, they follow WW1 week by week as it happened 100 years ago.
Smarter Every Day An Alabaman host goes through a huge array of random science topics and experiments, everything from slow motion cat physics to omnidirectional treadmills, meeting Obama to talk science stuff, to shooting a Kalashnikov underwater in his backyard pool to study the effect on the rate of fire, and charity projects.
Feature History- great animated overviews of stuff like thr Balkan Wars, Thiry Years War, The Troubles, etc.
PBS Spacetime - Really good videos on modern space science.
SciShow - really cool channel delivering well researched information on modern sciencr topics delivered in usually relatively short tidbits.
CrashCourse - hosted by the brother of the guy that does SciShow, this channel explores multiple historical, philisophical, scientific, and political topics in nicely packaged series.
InRangeTV - a partner channel to Forgotten Weapons that goes into practical usage of firearms, doing competitiins with everything from bolt action rifles to the modern SCAR, they also examine things like cybersecurity, old west history and historical sites, historical examinations of stuff like British food rationing in WW2 and what its like to eat that for a week and more.
Numberphile - cool math channel, most of it is beyond me. From the University of Nottingham
Sixty Symbols - cool Chemistry/Physics science from the University of Nottingham.
Bloke On The Range - another cool historical firearms channel by a British dude living in Switzerland.
ThePrimeThanatos Another excellent synth channel for painting, gaming, work, etc.
CapAndBall - more cool historical firearms stuff made by a Hungarian gentleman, lots of muzzleloaders, early cartridge guns, some other random stuff.
British Muzzle Loaders - pretty self explanatory, but also delves into SMLE's. Lots of period era drill, dress, etc.
Frasier Cain - canadian astrophysicist who examines space topics and does lots of stuff with other channels too, like Science and Furturism above.
Emperor Tigerstar - videos of cool historical maps like how the battlefronts shifted every day of WW2.
Jerry Miculek - if you want to see an old dude run around being a top end competitive shooter and doing cool trick shots and whatnot, he's the guy.
David Butler/How Far Away Is It? - detailed explanations of astrophysics and stellar phenomena. Very dry, but still super cool and informative
Military History Visualized - great channel by an Austrian dude going over everything from modern Russian military doctrine to WW2 German infantry squad tactics and 1700's infantry organization in animated/infographic format.
The Chieftan World of Tanks basically sends a former tanker around to museums and collections to get inside, drive, inspect, and talk about tanks.

I mostly just use videos which would work nearly as well as a podcast. If the video is one dude or dudette speaking to camera with only sparse visual aids, it's not much more distracting than having the radio on in the background. I agree, video series that rely on visuals like lets plays and so on are not suitable for that sort of thing.
Frog Leap Studios Come for the ultra HQ metal covers, stay for the interesting tech stuff. From Norway.
Banger TV The guy who inadvertently gave us the "*sips wine* Satan" meme has a whole channel of interesting metal music discussion, interviews, reviews and rankings. It's a metal nerd's mecca. From the True North Strong and Free (Canada).

He tends to get repetitive though.

For those of you who like to see various sci-fi factions and units compared and discussed, have a look at Eckhart's Ladder. He mostly focuses on Star Wars, but has also included things from Star Trek, Halo, Warhammer 40k, Mass Effect, and others.
I also like to watch some 40k content like battle reports, and this is my go-to guy on YouTube for it: The Glacial Geek. He does battle reports as well as discussions of various 40k related topics like how to build lists, etc. in his "Deep Thoughts, Thin Coats" series.

Guy does Lets Plays but does them in-character. Really impressive effort. I love his Seeking Sovngarde series for Skyrim. It is not as "produced" as some of his stuff but I just love watching him co struct characters and playing them from their POVs.
Kurzgestat is my current favourite channel, they cover a range of topics, mostly space based and every video is beautifully animated and informative. Plus the narrator sounds like the guidebook from Hitchhikers Guide the the Galaxy!
This is a pretty good example of the kind of stuff they do, most of their content will give you an existential crisis by the way...

Their main videos (Extra Credits) cover loads of different aspects of game design. Then there is their Extra History videos which cover loads of cool historical events (personal favourite is the South Seas Bubble for the sheer scale of the scheme) and Extra Sci Fi which covers the evolution of the science fiction genre in media.

For chess fans I really like matojelics channel and agadmators stuff.
Alientheory has some great vids for Alien universe buffs.
