So, I just saw this morning that Rage 2 is definitely a thing. I didn't see a thread on it here so I figure I'd make one.

Watching the trailer definitely has me hyped up. I was a fan of the first Rage. Yes it was bland in the fact that half of the missions were just the other half done in reverse, terrible storyline, yadda yadda. But the gameplay was fun, I loved the little wingstick things. And the racing and car combat was fun. Now, seeing all of that amped up to the extreme in an open-world environment? If the game really delivers that, count me in.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

All I could think of when watching this part of the presentation was that they were catering to the teenage edgelord player base quite well.

Rage 1 was pretty good - once you got it working. Here's hoping they take the time to square any graphics card issues away before they launch it. Despite that, this was one of the only exciting bits of E3 for me.

Yeah, I never heard of people having such serious issues with the first game until last night. I told my friend I was gonna reinstall it and play through it, and he said "Good Luck". Apparently he never got it to run properly on his machine. This struck me as odd because I don't have a super-amazing tower or anything, but I never had any issues running it.

It's weird, the fixes all revolve around disabling quite a few features that Nvidia and Radeon use in their software - apparently there were a LOT of clashes. And I'm with you, I reinstalled after I saw the trailer, I wanna give it a try again.

Oh yes, so very much this. I couldn't play the game for quite some time at release due to their "PC is no longer important" stance at the time.

Once I got the game working though, to me personally it felt very much like a run of the mill shooter with a typical id Software story (standard mechanics and shallow story), only this time around they forgot to replace the <RESISTANCE> and <THE AUTHORITY> placeholders with actual faction names. Never did finish it, especially because the game had a tendency to recycle maps to increase game length, by making you play through them at least twice, the second time almost always in reverse IIRC. They also wasted John Goodman on that game, damn it!

But, they did prove me wrong with the excellent DOOM, Wolfenstein New Order and the New Colossus, so maybe this one will be a massive improvement as well, with id Software providing the engine and IP, while the other studio provides some actual punch and gameplay.

Rage... quite possibly the most disappointing final 'boss' fight ever.

The problem with the first game was that, while the combat mechanics were decent, there was no pacing or drive to it.

You fought the same enemies in the same locations with the same mundane weapon over and over and never really seemed to go anywhere.

It's such a weird game to try to extend into a franchise, especially after Mad Max. Could you not afford the I76 license Bethesda? It's up on GOG.

And then he remembers that the next big Bethesda game is Fallout 76.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.
