Hey everyone - just wondering if marine mixing in detachments is a thing?

example would be Raven guard Bikers and Space Wolf Cavalry in the same detachment under the "Adeptus Astartes" banner - i assume its possible but i wouldn't be able to use SW stratagems (buy a relic for a SW char if i had one) but would have to use a marine warlord/trait/relic?
or would i be able to use SW strats on SW units (or even have a SW warlord and have a free relic, with potential to buy one for a SM char)

have looked around and a people have said mixed things so any help would be great - thanks!

If you mix them, you get no Chapter Tactics or Stratagems, but your Warlord will still have a Trait and you'll still get a relic due to your warlord.

Losing Chapter Tactics and Stratagems (especially the Raven Guard ones) is enough incentive that no-one ever actually runs mixed detachments.

To be a bit more precise, such a detachment will not qualify you to benefit from Chapter Tactics for the units in it, nor will it grant access to Space Marine nor Space Wolf Warlord Traits, Relics, or Stratagems.

However, the units will be able to utilize Warlord Traits, Relics, or Stratagems if your army has access to them based on other detachments.

There are some fringe benefits to this like taking a supreme command detachment with Librarians from different places like BA/SW/DA to access different powers.

The keywords are all still intact though so if you had a mixed detachment allied to a straight detachment say and Ultra/BA and another Ultra detachment. you could access ultra stratagems and play them on models from the mixed detachment with the ultra keyword.

But very fringe

Yes, you can do that. An UM librarian could cast might of heroes on a shield captain on jet bike to make him S6 T7 A6. Add that to the 2+ sv, 3++ inv sv, and 5+++ FNP he already has....

No he couldn't; Adeptus Custodes don't have the ADEPTUS ASTARTES keyword required for the target of Might of Heroes.

You cannot cast Might of Heros on a Custodes. But you could conceivably cast it on Mephiston or a Blood Angels Captain with his Artisan Hammer, or whatever.

Not sue it's worth it.

You could also buff Wulfen (not with Might of Heroes though), etc.. as one of the remaining things currently still without Codex.

Ok, sorry. Didn't check if the shield captain has the right keyword. I thought he would have it. But yes captn slammy could be buffed by MOH. Which make no big difference though.
