So We all know imperial knight coded has dropped and the house bonus are amazing I love it. But the problem I have is each list I make I bounce between questor imperialism and mechanicum. Also I hate having to conform to the cookie cutter paint schemes.

So my question is if I want to bring a knight to a tournament or local by the book shop. Will they give me gak if I paint my knights a unique color and claim house stats? I plan to maganatize the shield on the chest so I can set up a handful of shields with house names and symbols and just swap them out as I want to change houses.

Unfortunately I pre ordered both the new big boy’s and then found out about the questor split relics and stuff. I have 3/6 knights ready to be painted and I don’t want to start till I get some type of answer.

Paint never matters except at GW's GT and then only for SM.

Because having Dark angels painted as Ultra Marines is confusing.

To confirm what the others said, Paint has zero influence on the rules, you can paint your models however you want and use whatever rules you want.

If a TO makes such a rule, it's a house rule and nothing more.

Paint schemes really dont matter. The exception would be like Blood Angels, Ultramarines, Space Wolves etc....

Basically if a SM chapter has its own dex you need to paint that scheme (exception is the generic SPace Marine codex).

I plan on painting each knight a different scheme (like knights of old). Maybe follow Game of Thrones schemes or something. Who knows.

False. There are no game rules that dictate how a chapter NEEDS to be painted.

TO rules only state that if your army is composed of multiple different chapters/cabals/regiments/brood they need to be painted in such way that they're distinguishable from one another.

If I have an army that consist of ultramarines, imperial fists and blood angels, I can choose to paint my ultramarines red, imperial fists blue and blood angels yellow. Your opponent will be annoyed though.

Not true in the slightest. You can paint your marines Neon Pink and Royal Purple and use the Space Wolf rules just fine. If a TO says otherwise, it's a house rule, nothing more. The actual rules themselves do not care about paint.

Just as a point of fact- The rules don't require any paint whatsoever. So RaW you can just play your units umpainted (in fact there's no rule that says that they have to be assembled but...).

Yeah. If someone had blue blood angels i would question their sanity.

I have a blue blood angel. Guess I’m just crazy.

To the question how you paint your models is completely up to you. Rule of thumb used in my group is that so long as you can differentiate the different groups (chapter, regiment, hive, etc.) they your good to go.
