For me, whenever I think of Plasma weaponry I always envision it as green. What colour comes into your head when you think of plasma weaponry? IIRC the official fluff has it as blue?

Depend on what color you paint your lens; I paint my plasma blue, melta green, power weapons purple, lens red. I’ve seen really good meltas in orange too.

I painted mine also green, but that's mainly because it contrasts well with my SWs. For Dark angels I would probably paint it blue.

Usually green on my BA. I use blue for Power weapons. For different armies I'd change it up maybe.

But as far as official guides, I think it used to be green but blue seems more common now in pics I've seen.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Personally green. I might have some older ones in blue. But as an Ultramarine, the green contrasts better.

I’ve seen it in all sorts of colors. A lot depends on the primary scheme of the army.

But out of army context, I think green.

Back in 4th and 5th edition when I played flavor-of-the-month marines, I always had green plasma. Now, with my Sallies, I prefer blue as it contrasts better with their green armor.

"Official fluff" doesn't care. The miniatures painters paint them blue, green, orange and probably other colours too, all depending on what contrasts best with the model carrying the weapon.

Personally, I paint the plasma coils on my weapons as copper. That still irks me, because "really" the copper coils would be coated, but it's better than having them glowing, IMO. I do paint the interior of the muzzles and the vent openings around the front of the gun blue, though.

Green for me too, it fits my heresy dark angels quite nicely, it also ties in with my green power weapons

Those coatings are often transparent - look at most motor windings. So, if you like painting them copper then feel free to do so without being irked.

Hooray!

I split the difference on my Thermic Plasma Regulators - I painted them copper, but with a blue glow between the ridges.

Same here. I use a bluish neon green for my Loyalists and a neon orange for Chaos (who are on lava bases)

I always thought the coils on the plasma guns were supposed to be like a really advanced heatsink for convection cooling. If that is the case, the strictly realistic color would be red/orange to white in the case of an extremely hot heatsink.

If another poster was correct and it emits cherenkov radiation, the strictly realistic color would be a light blue.

The colour is determined by the gas:

CF4: blue
SF6: white blue
SiF4: light blue
SiCl4: light blue
Cl2: whitish green
CCl4: whitish green
H2: pink
O2: pale yellow
N2: red to yellow
Br2: reddish
He: red to violet
Ne: brick red
Ar: dark red

Personally I prefer Pink/Violet for Chaos and Blue/White Blue or Green for Imperium. No one likes Tau so they don't factor into it...

I don't paint glow on my plasmas, I just paint the coils metallic. (But if I wanted to have any glowing parts, they would be blue.)

Mainly been going with sky blue and white highlights. Seems to contrast rather well with darker Salamander armor.

That would be a pretty cool idea. How do you manage to make it that colour without having it clash with the rest of the model?

Depends on the army. My Deathwatch and my Dusk Raiders both use blue because it contrasts well with black/silver/red and grey/white/red and bright green would clash, but I've seen green and magenta. Light blue goes well with most Marine schemes, though.

If you're considering this for the Heresy (or have a Mechanicum army, or some Tartaros Terminators) the other consideration is what colour you're doing volkite (the other special weapon class with glowy containment fields on the barrel), since it's probably a good idea to make them different.
