With so many rumours for so many new models going about i think it's time we analyse the entire situation. I would argue GW had a massive shift in organisation and marketing methods about a year to two years ago. Therefore, from just before 8th editon, how long in advance does GW tease and show us evidence for big updates such as 8th edition and lots of new models (such as primaris and Nurgle). For example, the new GSC model has been shown a good 3 maybe 4 months in advance now but there has been no official word on SW and Orks. To me, this would suggest GSC are the real faction with a big update comming and the other two won't be getting more than a single new model? Therefore, how common is it for GW (if it was a bit update) to tell us about so many new models 1 week in advance? Or does the fact they haven't said anything suggest nothing major is comming?

If we smash all hopes now we can build a house out of those bricks but if we buiod in advance then GW is likely going to smash the house down for good.

disclaimer: although we will probably talk about Orks a lot I want to have the focus of this thread be on how GW markets products so we can build a reliable map that works even after the ork update.

If you're talking about Orks, well Space Wolves has seen nothing previewed, but we're pretty sure they'll get some Wolfy Primaris. At this point though it does look like if Orks do get new releases it's not going to be a big wholesale replacement of the range. I would guess GSC will only get Aberrants and maybe another kit or two. Other than the reworked and new factions nobody has got much in the way of new models (I consider Knights reworked before someone chimes in with that).

There's orky looking sneak peak unsolved for like year. Other sneak peaks have been unsolved long either. What they sneakpeak next isn't neccessarily indication of what's soon(not unlikely seeing models can sit even years before release)

And how early official sneak peaks for custodian models started coming up?

I'm not sure on the dates, it's why I'm asking so I can get a real analyse down and predict the future.

As for the rumour pics could you post them here or sent them to me. People keep talking about them but I've never seen the and can't find them...apart from the recent squig looking one.

There's thread in news&rumours subsection. Easier to just go there.

And good luck predicting GW's release pattern. People were waiting for eldar jetbikes for over a decade expecting them to come next codex yet GW kept holding them back. And now with rumour pictures no real pattern in times.

Can't seem to find anything that is defo orks there.

As for schedule. Officially 8th edition with primaris marines was announced on April 22 which was 50-60 days before it came out.

Now we should figure of the death guard and nurgle dates.

Custodes (which shocked everyone) was announced with 3 new kits on January the 6th which was about 20+ days before it came out. So, if Orks and SW are getting 1-3 new models than I would suggets at tye start of next month we will hear something. Or the start of April depending on when it comes out.

Forgive me if I am wrong, i think new DG models (or at least new DG was talked about or hinted by GW about 80 days before the codex came out and about 120 days before the final DG model came out.

There was an AOS nighthaunt model that was in the rumours that took almost a year to release. I don't think there's much of a pattern to try and work out on the releases.

It's just going to get worse post- Ork/Wolves because we don't really know what GWs plan is after that outside of the vauge "2019 Sisters" promise.

I'd have thought the July White Dwarf is likely to have something if they are due to be released in July?

You missed this one? I know of no other army in the game that would use spiked tires.

Knowing our luck this will be an imperium model or an imperial models standing over a beoken ork vechile we will never get. XD but yes, i did miss this... it's an interesting one. In terms on the images, we know stuff was shown off a good 2 years in advance which shows how long gw has this stuff for without leaks. Yet some things are leaked months in advance.

Supposedly we are getting new Sisters next year - maybe.

We do have a single image.

Very much likely. Due to the tease of new GSC models, and the recent image from gw (which is most likely a GSC weapon) I very much predict a huge GSC update. It makes sense marketing wise which is why i made this thread. Also, isn't one of the devs a huge GSC fan?

Pretty sure the new Aberrant was previewed as a Killteam release rather than an actual GSC release.

I don't see that on the article and not sure where the info is for that:

The keen-eyedamong you will note that this only leaves a single xenos faction still lurking in the shadows… Well, good news – there’s something crawling down the pipe for the forces of the Genestealer Cults too – and he has three arms, three eyes, one and a half heads… and a stop sign.

And this handsome chap might not be alone – look out for more xenos news in the future…

The fact they talk about the model in the context of the codex, the fact it is 3 or 4 months before the codex (similar to previous marketing) and they say "might not be alone" all leads me to conclude that GW is building up a big GSC codex. If this turns out to be the case then this would demonstrate the marketing cycle of GW for big faction updates and ho on to help us understand the new GW.

Vigo. Spain.

Yeah, the abherrant is 100% for GSC for w40k, not kill-team.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

You got a source? And if so it only means we know they advertise even further in advance.

With Custodes they'd advertised the captain general in October a good 4 months in advance. I knew we where getting a custodes codex most likely when I saw him

GW is THE WORST about letting folks know what is in the pipe. Their lack of letting you know what was coming was the whole reason I first came to DakkaDakka. I'll argue that it's even worse than when I first came here - there used to be a lot of community rumors that would clue us into what was coming, but as 8E neared, GW plugged all the rumormill holes. Now, we only get a few crumbs from the Ivory Tower on Warhammer Community. About the only thing GW gave any decent advance warning was 8E's actual drop. That gave some unprecendented lead time, compared to the dead-drop of AoS's arrival to the utter stunning of the WHFB fanbase.

Most other companies I buy from tell you MONTHs in advance what they have coming. With GW, you have maybe a week to know.

For example, I have X-Wing 2.0 preordered at Miniature Market - it won't be released until September. I could do the same for the upcoming Rune Wars models - which won't be out for another quarter or two.

It never ends well

They are getting better though, I've noticed their marketing schedule is mostly consistent. However, it does need to be a bit earlier. I find myself spending my money elsewhere as without anything to save up for i don't ever want to spend at GW.
They may be a monopoly but they're a monopoly on plastic tiys and there are too maby distractions for nerds in the modern world that require my money elsewhere.
