What are some of the units you've used in your Imperial armies are excellent at taking down things with the Fly keyword?

It might be a gimmick. But a 5 man devastator team with one missle launcher and cherub can do 2d3 mortal wounds (with 2+ hit rolls) on a flying enemy for one command point. The unit costs 95pts. This only works one round before the cherub is spent. With rule of three you can repeat this three rounds with 285pts and 3cp invest. Plus any normal damage these squads will put out

has anyone had any luck with hydras? I bought one because I love the old school AA look and was wondering if anyone has had any luck with a squadron. Everyone is flying around with jetbikes, DE, DPs, Magnus ect so i feel like you would always get the +1 to hit then with overlapping fields of fire you could be hitting a flyer on a 2+ rerolling 1s

From what I've seen personally, Onager Dunecrawlers do a good job at it for the points. With a broad spectrum data tether and the protector doctrina they can hit just about every flier in the game on at least 3's, and often times 2's.

My Hydra looks great (obvs)... But sucks. on average 4 hits against a flyer (that is at -1 to hit) with autocannon typically results in 1 or 2 wounds. If it ignored negative modifiers to hit then it might cut it. Currently I would be tempted if I was that desperate for autocannon shots to get two heavy weapon squads for the same points and number of hits against fliers!

If Hydra's aren't working out for you you could always try Hellhounds, the autohitting means a lot and as long as you sneak a single wound through if you're running cadians it lets you trigger overlapping fields of fire to start negating the -1's to hit. have some Las or autocannon's (or a Hydra) around to take advantage and you could really throw out some hurt.

And those hws dies when somebody says boo. If you don't get first turn(hard with ig) any non-mortar hws gets to shoot if opponent allows

Which is why you toss them into infantry sqauds, less efficient to get orders off onto and will stop you from moving several squads but they'll still be able to do some decent work.

I second Onagers with the Icarus Array. The amount of shots they put out is awesome, and can still be of use when all the fliers are dealt with.

Icarus array, space marine anti-flyer flyer, Hydra, hellhound, flakk missile as was said, Stalker's pretty solid IMO, Kastelan Robots can basically just bull down anything, Ironstrider Balistarii can hit on 2s even vs -1 to hit with the Defender stratagem and pack lascannons, though 95pts for 2 lascannons is a bit pricey.

Honestly both the shooty skitarii vehicles are friggin amazing. My only problem with the Icarus Array is I can just use the stratagem on a neutron laser if I want and its usually just as effective if not more so. For maximum CP efficiency you could do like a unit of 3 balistarii, but 140 points for a NL onager with twice the wounds, 3+ save, 5++ invuln if near another onager vs 95 points for a balistarii with just a -1 to hit is a rough sell.2 lascannons vs 1 neutron laser is pretty much a non-contest. Never tried the balistarii with autocannons though, at 75ppm that might be a viable choice, its just again you compare to a dunecrawler who for 130 points gets that gun AND the big missile AND the gatling missile.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

A Missile Launcher with Cherub and a Heavy Bolter allows you to do 3d3 Mortal wounds, eats through things like Jetbikes.

Oddly enough the space marine storm-hawk is quite capable in this roll.

Hydras are good because most air units can't kill it in a turn. Even going second it'll often account for its point. They also double as heavy infantry hunters, although the lower BS makes them mediocre at the role.

Hellhounds are fantastic for the role. They don't miss, can reroll #of shots in a catachan formation, have a scary threat range, and cheap for what they do. You can whip up three of them in a outrider detachment, nail the first flyer you see, than go on to killing infantry without losing effectiveness.

The best is the BA Captain with angels wing jump pack, and thunder hammer (optionally storm shield too).

Drop in (or use wings of fire), 3D6 inch charge in, use a CP for +D3 attacks and a plane will fall out the sky. Costs a load of CP, but little else is more deadly for the points cost.

Best used alongside a cheap guard brigade with command point shenanigans for limitless CP.

Then wings of fire across the board and do it again next turn til the planes are gone.

Valiant Dominus - nothing like an 18" 3d6 super flamer to deal with pesky flying units. Also the amusement factor of shooting a flyer with the harpoon cannon - the damage will cripple most fliers, if not destroy them outright.

Its stilly from a fluff standpoint, but it IS effective for dealing with air units.

We already had this. The best imperial AA unit is the xiphon interceptor. It hits other hard to hit flyers on 3+, it has an ability which gives it +1 to hit FLY units. It hits units with the FLY keyword which dont have hard to hit on 2+. It hits any other unit on 3+. It has two twin lascannons and a rocket pod heavy 3 S6 AP-2 D3. It is hard to hit itself, and has an ability like POTMS, no -1 to hit for moving and firing heavy weapons. Other flyers cant hide from it by flying away, he can always see them, unlike any ground vehicle.

A dev squad with hellfire shells, flakk missile, signum and cherub are a good choice too. If they can see the flyer.
