So Mars has been warred over pretty extensively ruining whatever terraforming goals there might have been.

When all is said and done though, is there any sort of hardy native grass that lives on Mars? I ask for purposes of basing with static grass.

From what I remember reading there was once grass there but the environment was ruined in a war and is basically something like it is currently in our world.

If I remember correctly, mars was terraformed successfully during the DAOT. The wars and the industrial pollution afterwards turned it back into the red planet that we know and love. I doubt there is any vegetation alive anywhere on the surface, maybe some hardy lichens and fungi in the deeper caverns.

I thought it was during the Age of Strife the protection from radiation broke down so everything on the surface died and they started civil war.

Possibly, I don't remember that lore too well. But I do know that it was fully terraformed at one point.

There is no atmosphere... It had an atmosphere well before the dark age, but no more. It had atmospheric shields that were destroyed in the age of strife, and any atmosphere it had got destroyed in radiation etc.

once mars had oceans and was fully terraformed, then old night happened, back to being a dust bowl, is there any veg left, yep, but not in the "wild" in the forge cities sure, its a planet with humans on it, its silly to think not a single one would have a garden or some such.

if you want to use "grass" it can be explained as some sort of tech that mimics grass, it would be very fitting to the setting if some sort of self replicating "grass" was growing all over the place on mars and the Ad Mech have no idea what it is, possibly a remnant of old tech for terraforming, roll with it if you like it.

Hmm, I really like that idea

Possibly in various biodomes or greenhouses, but not outside. Or maybe some hardy scrubs here and there.
