The freeblade rules let you give qualities and burdens to one free blade in a detatchment. Canis Rex always has fixed qualities and burdens.

My question is can i have a freeblade withe qualitiesand burdens + canis rexin the same detatchment.

I'm intrpretting it that way but BS says no.

If Canis Rex is a freeblade and has qualities/burdens, then he counts as your one for that Detachment, no? Why do you think he should allow a second Knight to have them, breaking the ‘one per detachment’ rule?

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

You can't have Canis and a second Freebase with Q&B in the same detachment.

Because of the way its worded. A seperate rule lets you have as many freeblades as you want in a detatchment as you want.

If your army is battleforged, then before the battle you can give one freeblade model in each detatchment qualities and burdens. To do so, choose a single quality from the table below, or roll two d6 to randomly generate two qualities from the table (duplicate rolls have no effect). If your battle-forged army includes canis rex, both canis rex and sir hekhetur have the legendary hero and last of there line qualities.

So

I read it as If your army is battleforged, then before the battle you can give one freeblade model in each detatchment qualities and burdens. To do so, choose a single quality from the table below, or roll two d6 to randomly generate two qualities from the table (duplicate rolls have no effect).

So i pick a freeblade give it qualities. I don't choose Canis rex.

Then i apply the second part
If your battle-forged army includes canis rex, both canis rex and sir hekhetur have the legendary hero and last of there line qualities.

It doesnt say you must choose canis rex to get the qualities and burdens simply that he has them

Contrast that with warlord traits where it uses an "if" clause

Canis Rex is a named character and his Q&B work similar to how Warlord Traits work on named characters. They don't get to pick them but you don't get multiple Warlord Traits if you bring multiple named characters. Only the Warlord would get the trait. Same idea here, only 1 Freeblade can get Q&B.

Agreed with respect to warlord because in the warlord trait section it says "if he is your warlord" so if he is not your warlord you wouldn't get the warlord trait qualities and burdens dont have the if. When i look at other named character types they all have an if.

If you couldn't it should either read if canis rex is your chosen freeblade...

Or you must choose canis rex as your freeblade ..

Canis Rex and Sir Hektor are not a choice(and, no, they are nothing like Warlord Traits).

U0sdah4 has it right: you can choose 1 freeblade from each detachment, blah, blah; then if you have Canis rex he has the set whether you choose any qualities and Burdens or not.

Canis Rex and Sir Hektor can never not have Q&B; they always have the set. This is also a separate clause from choosing or not choosing a freeblade from any given detachment(including their own).

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

I asked BS to update

And this got asked on warhammer community

Hi! Quick question. If you include Canis Rex in an IK detachment, are you allowed to give another freeblade in the same detachment Qualities/Burdens, since Canis already has them? P119 says only one Freeblade model per detachment may have them.

Warhammer community responded with

Sir Hekhtur and Canis Rex are a Freeblade and all of the rules regarding Freeblades apply to them as normal.

So if you think as we have discussed above that you get both you will think that is following the rules and if you think only one is permitted per detatchment you will think that is right

So as usual kudos to warhammer community for tackleing an issue with ambiguous answer when yes/no is all that is required

I do however note that the question says "only one Freeblade model per detachment may have them." On pg119 which it doesn't so is misleading

Bs wont be updateing as they feel them WC answer answers the question

Well; only 1 freeblade per detachment is allowed to choose one... so, yeah.

Warhammer Community is similar to the old "roolzboyz" when calling; they are not the writers nor anyone that really matters. however they can get in touch with the authors to ask a real question easier(roolzboyz were in a contact center; and part of why I rage-quit in early 4th sfter playing all through 3rd).

None of their answers are valid for YMDC, and the RAW is not countered with Canis Rex getting the Q&B and then 1 non-character freeblade also gaining Q&B.

That said I would not be surprised to see an FAQ/Eratta stating that Canis Rex removes Q&B from another Freeblade in the same detachment. So do not build your list expecting both.

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

Please, stop asking Facebook for rules answers. They are wrong more often than not and even if they are "right", they aren't official FAQs.
