Colony 87 is a project for 28mm metal sci fi civilian models. They've had 2 prior Kickstarters and great quality and delivery. Their 3rd and final one has been announced for Fall 2018.

I'd show off my models but they're packed away for the next move

Sadly Jon says the prior 2 KS models need new molds and probably will not be offered.

It's been over 3 years since the first trip to Colony 87, and 2 years since the return. It might not be too long before the final trip to Colony 87.

As with the previous Kickstarters, we will be looking to produce a small set of characterful sci-fi civilians

Once again, Will Beck has drawn some amazing concept sketches, and ace sculptors Michael Anderson and John Pickford are on board.

All being well, we hope to have the sculpts completed and the Kickstarter launched this coming autumn - watch this space for updates.

In the meantime, here's a first look at Will Beck's concept for Jelena Belova, commercial pilot.

- Jon

I'd recommend keep asking, I'm sure if there's demand there something can be done.

These look nice, but Kickstarter-only is no use. I'd have bought a load of these for Necromunda, but they weren't available. :(

Hmm...maybe they should sell the old designs to another company to produce amd distribute.

Thanks for the feedback folks and glad you like the figures.

I thought it would be useful to respond to some of the background as to why Kickstarter has been used, and why previous ranges aren't available.

KS model was used because I'm a hobbyist who wanted some civilians for my own games, and thought other people might like them. As an individual with no professional links to the gaming industry, this was the only model that levered the finances to allow this to happen.

Equally, as a hobbyist, I don't have the time to effectively continuously produce, stock, market and sell a permanently available range.

Making wave 1 available through the wave 2 KS caused logistical and production issues, which can be avoided by just focussing on releasing the new set. This also means that backers should receive their figures sooner.

As for future availability, I have had discussions about future distribution of the range. It may be some way off, but I'm hopeful that in due course the previous figures will be more widely available.

Cheers! Jon

I made the mistake of missing the last ones and I'll be sure not to repeat that. I'd REALLY like to be able to purchase some items from the old ones - they absolutely deserve to be out there on the market. The pilot looks great.

Fair enough. I only found out about the first wave after it was done and dusted, when painted examples started appearing on the Oldhammer groups. Tried to find out how to get some, and couldn't. :(

Have you tried talking with either Hasslefree or Heresy Miniatures?

Check out my gallery here
Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

@kestral - hopefully you'll like the other figures in the new set too!

@AndrewGPaul - sorry you missed out on sets. I only sold the last set I had about 4 or so months ago - people were contacting me via Facebook, through the KS webpage and a few forums to pick up sets long after the KS had finished.

@bubber - not Hasslefree or Heresy specifically, but I have had conversations with other well known retailers.

Sad there won't be any restocks. As someone with GSC, I desperatly need 40k civilians

@axiom just my ₹2 if you're looking for someone to take them on. No idea if any of these companies would be interested or what terms they might have though.

Rebel Miniatures whole line is adapted from abandoned/lost lines like the old Starship Troopers and Judge Dredd lines and they work in metal so they might be a suitable home.

Vanguard doesn't do much in 28mm but they have a large space ship line and might see some synergy.

Northstar bought the Copplestone line a few years back so they might also be interested.

Brigade has a spaceship line as well and do some 28mm.

Are you sculpting the models yourself or having someone else do them? Have you looked at going digital?

What I mean is that if you had them sculpted digitally as a 3d sculpt instead of a traditional sculpt it can open up other options. For example, if you didn't want to continuously produce, someone else could take that mantle up. You could also simply sell the STL like on cgtrader or similar places with a limited, custom or even royalty-free license and afterward someone would be able to pick that up. It generates some extra cash flow but at the same time allows other options, after a Kickstarter has been completed, to make the range available for others.

@Dark Severance - thanks for the thoughts. These figures are traditionally sculpted by two sculptors I very much like (Michael Anderson and John Pickford). Sculpting style is key to the figures, rather than flexiblity of production. The aim has never been world domination, but to rather self-indulgently have models made that I want

The Kickstarters have been a way to help fund more sculpts than I would have been able to have had made, pure and simple.

As I've said before, I've had discussions with retailers about the future of the range once I have achieved my plans. This will by necessity be traditional mould-making and casting, and nothing is cast in stone as to who the parties will be involved. It will definitely be after the third KS has completed and in all likelihood be deeper into 2019 at the earliest.

Hope so, I would love to get these and I missed out on the other kickstarters. I've been burned in the past so I refuse to participate in kickstarters.

Preview of things to come:

This cute little pair of kids have been sculpted by John Pickford and will be an add-on / stretch goal to the set of 6 (adults) sculpted by Michael Anderson. As with the previous figures, the concept work has been done by Will Beck.

Actually, there's at least 2 fan made sculpts like this.

1) Male farmer holding hand of a baby purestrain.
2) Female holding swaddled hybrid
3) If Im remembering correctly, Magus with baby hybrid holding his robes.

I didn't have any luck with google images, but I assure you, they're out there. Check e-bay

Edit

Sorry for the OT...

I'll be watching this KS as well.

Didn't take me as long as I thought it would. But, this had to be found (and also sorry for the off topic).

To make this on topic... I too am very excited about this Kickstarter. I haven't looked close, I am wondering if the past models are still available.

According to their Facebook page, as of the start of October it had been pushed back 'a few months' as they're still finishing off some sculpts.
