Had an interesting thing come up last game. My Knight charged his Hellblaster+Ancient combo, and a couple of Hellblasters blew up and killed themselves firing Overwatch. His Ancient allowed them to get back up and fire again, but we were unsure of how it's resolved, is it standard shooting, or Overwatch again?

We went with standard shooting, as it states "may shoot as if it was the Shooting phase", but there was still a grey area in that they're still firing Overwatch.

Thoughts?

It’s standard shooting.

If you look at a Dark Angels Chapter Ancient then they, unlike normal company ancients, actually upgrade them to a 2+ WS in death shots, which is super nasty. I played against a DA Hellblasters list and they were trying to get a few to explode on Overwatch just to get better shots.

Fun fact: This also works with Auspex. Since Auspex also imposes a -1 then overcharging is probably going to make exploding marines but the banner then can let them shoot again at full efficiency. Don’t drop near Hellblasters!

The extra attack is done using the shooting phases rules, so full BS.
